SRS warning

I'm on my hols up on the Isle of Skye when my W203 C220 cdi estate decided to tell me that there is a problem with the srs restraint and I shouid drive to a workshop.

I'm 460 miles from home and at least 200 miles from a large city, will the car be ok to get home? Is this a common issue?

All advice appreciated!

The car will be fine to get home - if you bare in mind that one (or more) of the airbags will not deploy in the event of a crash.

If its anything like the W202, the most likely cause of this fault is a loose connection under the front passenger seat. easy to fix.

If that doesnt work, proceed to your MB dealers.

Thanks for the reples. I'll have a quick look under the seat and if there's nothng obvious then I'll leave it to a technician!

Mine was on constantly, just makes you drive with a bit more care! Recently had this diagnosed and got the following fault codes..

003 voltage over or under 15R (this may have nothing to do with it), 021 passenger side airbag sensor, 018 driver side airbag sensor, they cleared the codes and I didn't get charged for this. It has not appeared since but I am currently monitoring it to see what happens.

I currently have the same issue after having a service. The diagnostic machine say's its the drivers seat sqab/sqib, however they call it and the guy said that it may only just be the connector under the drivers seat that needed looking at, as this is a common fault. Well I did check it out and it all looks fine to me and I still have the problem!! Its at MB now to really see what the problem is..

Lets see...

Did you remove the connector and check if the wire inside was touching the pins?

This happened to me - I called up an MB dealer who said it should be OK but if I was unhappy about driving with the warning light on, I should 'forget' I called them and contact Mobilo. This I did - they said it should be OK to drive but when I said I was unhappy they arranged for the car to be picked up and got a pretty new E-class as a replacement! Car was taken to my local dealer who replaced an airbag - under warranty I'm pleased to say.

All-in-all a brilliant service. No fuss, no drama. It really is worth keeping up Mobilo cover sometimes!

In W210's this is caused by a faulty seatpad sensor or something along the lines of that.

Just a quick update... all seat leads checked and they appear to be secure, even when wiggled the warning light stays on. I'll get it booked in to the dealer when I get home and try not to park it in a hedge en route!

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice, it is appreciated.

The SRS light will not go out when the fault is cleared. It has to be reset via STAR.

So even if you have rectified the problem by wiggling the appropriate connecter, the light will stay on until it's cleared by STAR.

I've been told that whilst the SRS light is on, none of your airbags are active. So hope you manage to get this resolved soon.

BTW, if you know an Indy with STAR, they will be alot cheaper than a Stealer!!

Yeh I did check it all out and the continuity was fine. But Mr Shr has brought up a good point there:

I did't have the system re-set with Star after I checked the connections, but the guy who diagnosed said I could have uncoupled the battery for 10mins and that would clear the fault, if the connection under the seat had been the problem and I had sorted it by checking it out that is! I forgot to do that!! Poo..

BigJC could try it though? Interesting to know if that would clear the fault!
