It would go in the R129, so no option of having a dash display - but then I presume you rely on the audio cues anyway? Is this a sensible route (no pun intended) or can you now just get software for mobiles and use that instead via the in-car speakers? (I have a Nokia in-car setup)

I'm sure there are versions of Tomtom for the Nokia, but not sure which phones they are compatible with. Also, for best performance of sat nav you'd almost definately want to have some kind of visual display.. the bigger the better, in those difficult routes.
Also.. you sure you want to buy from abroad? i guess buying from Germany is ok, but beware of those dodgy eastern european units that come up for sale.

Quite a few people here have had the APS30 and really rate them highly, I think they're made by Becker and badged as MB. I was seriously considering one too as it's a single din unit so would fit in my car without issues. In the end I plumped for a TomTom Go 700 as I do alot of travelling in hire cars/company pool cars etc so the TomTom suited my needs better as it can be taken from car to car plus the MOWE (Maps Of Western Europe) are fully integrated so there's no need to swap maps at country borders.
TomTom have software for smart phones, compatible Nokias include... 3230 , 6260 , 6600 , 6630 , 6670 , 6680 , 6681 , 7610 , 7710 , 9300 , 9500. http://www.tomtom.com/products/compa...=69&Language=1 S. |

I don't have Symbian or Windows on my Nokia, so will go for the APS30 if I can find one. Thanks for your replies.

Silly question - are these regional units? i.e. in different languages or user selectable?!?

I have two of these units one was in my SL and the other in my Dad's A class. I am looking at selling one of the units. Please PM if you are interested. They are very good and would keep but i driving a few cars these days so a portable solutions suits me better. Though I still the OEM Mercedes look.

Like a mobile phone, menu lanuage is default English, I am sure you can select other lanuages however I have never tried. A plus point is that the disc covers every Western European country.

Does anyone know the differences between the series numbers for APS30 - 4715, 4716, 4717 etc. I presume they are models old to new, but would a later model be incompatible with a single DIN D2B connection?

I used an APS30 for about a year, I bought it on ebay from Germany, And fitted it in my ML in about 15 mins.
It worked perfect, and yes you can easily change languages on the unit. You have to calibrate the unit with the car, such as setting tyre size, this can be tricky without instructions, and to get a manual from the dealership was difficult, but I eventually got one. The only problem I have with the APS30 is that one disc covers the whole of Europe, and outside of major cities and towns, and of the main roads, the coverage is sometimes limited. I still have the unit if anyone is interested, It is a complete setup, with disc, antenna , and manual. |
