Automatic lights

Does anyone know if it is possible to adjust the sensitivity of the automatic lights on a 2005 E320 CDi Avantgarde?
The lights on mine come on in bright sunlight, particularly in the mornings.

thanks,
John...

Car had its first service last week at MB Brentford. They were supposed to have checked it out but there is no difference. It has to go back soon to have the instrument cluster replaced so I'll ask them to again to adjust the lights.

thanks,
John...

As Brian said it is def a Dealer/Stealer item to be adjusted. As far as i know on the W211 the light sensors are very "sensitive". I have seen several 211s with headlight locators functioning during bright sunlight upon lock/unlock of the car. Not sure, but does the 211 in the software menu have an option/setting to automatically actiavte headlamp locators upon lock/unlock of the vehicle regardless to the environmental brightness???

The fog lights come during unlock regardless of environmental brightness. I haven't seen any settings in the menus to adjust that.

It is the surround lighting on lock/unlock. You can turn it off on the steering wheel settings section. This doesn't account for normal lights coming on early though, that is the sensor in the windscreen.

I had a recent C-Class saloon on hire from AVIS a few months ago, which must have had the same problem. I couldn't turn the headlights off at all, although they switched themselves off shortly after the ignition was switched off.

Probably failed to get PDI'd properly, being a hire car.

Ian.

They were probably set to be on constantly in the settings menu

I think it's linked though - at least in my W203, the surround lighting doesn't come on unless its 'dark'. I presume the same sensor decides this.

Yep - mine was like that when I test drove it (at MB Direct). The salesman turned them off in a trice. He was much more confident with the settings menus than I am even after 6 months!

On W203 it is the IRC Sensor mounted on to the windcreen that measure sthe level of light (just like the W211). Had probs with my auto headlamp locators on my W203 from brand new and black box mounted onto the windscreen was replaced. The foglamps would fail to switch on unless unlock button on key**** was pressed twice. However, the senstivity of the IRC has to also be adjucted by the Stealer and when my car is parked under a tree or building is shadowing the windscreen then the fog lamps activate upon unlock from the key ****.

LOL... it was a champagne gold colour (unsure of proper name) and was a C180 Classic (auto). Very nice drive really, I did about 1200 miles that week in it and really enjoyed it. Didn't think it felt underpowered either.

Also I didn't know about the settings menu, so just ignored the headlights being permanently on, even when asked to turn them down at the gate entrance to a site I visited in it.

Once they're set to be on all the time - can they be turned off by moving the light switch to 'sidelight' position? If not, what do you do in (some) tunnels where you're instructed not to use headlamps?

Mine are the same, the are very sensitive and come on in anything other than bright sunshine. It doesn't bother me though, and the Xenon's look cool!
