W211 door handle advice please
Bearing in mind my idiocy (I entered the car twice today from the passenger side and clambered into the drivers seat, even taking my shoes off second time round, rather than simply reaching over and opening the door from the inside ), could this be a DIY job? I'm no mechanic, but would be willing to give it a go if it's as simple as buying a new handle and putting it in.My worry is that by meddling with whatever sensors etc are there, I may be putting the security of the car at risk or even putting it into some kind of lockdown mode, or wrecking the doors interior. If anyone has resolved a similar issue, I'd be grateful for advice. Thanks |

hey TDE, the outer handle its easy to take off if its the inner part thats broken then a little more tricky as the door card will need to come off.

Thanks Alps. Been poking round again and can't see any way of removing it from the outside. Suspect I was being over ambitious.
Back to MB.... ![]() Cheers Tim |

There's nothing wrong with a bit of 'Dukes of Hazzard' stylee when entering a car.
Just watch out for the gear lever and where it ends up (scuse the pun)... ![]() I can remember a time when I could traverse a car internally...

Hi Tim the plastic bits come off easy with a half of a wooden peg say or a plastic cooking spatula can be used. The handle comes off without the need to take the panel off. Peel back the rubber draught seal behind the lock on the door. You will see a hole that an allen key goes in, not sure what size around 4-5mm from memory. Undo screw and the fixed part of the handle come out. The moving part can then be taken out by moving it towards the gap you just made.
This link from the dark side may also assist. Good luck. Door Handle on CLS - Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forums |

Those Duke boys removed the front glass. Unfortunately, the 211 front glass doesn't drop down fully, leaving a small sliver of window sticking up. Trying to get in like Schneider or Wopat over that may result in more damage than it's worth...
