I have read in another forum that it could be a relay, the main light switch or the stalk. Has anyone had any experience of this as any input would help before delvin in to the unknown |

Welcome to the forum.
Now with regards to your problem. What other symptoms does the car have? Do the indicators work and the wipers? Have you checked the fuses as well as the relay? |

If dip beam works and main beam flash does it is probably the switch.
Try 'wiggling' the switch in the main beam postion, also move it up and down as if indicating left and right. If the main beam flashes, it is the switch. If you need to test the switch, I think it is a yellow wire for dip and a white wire for main beam. Test with a testlight. |

Thanks, Wipers and indicators work fine. I was working on the theory that the fuse is ok as the flash works ok also same for the relay.
Would they be different circuits ? Oh i wish i had a wiring diagram. |

It may be a connection on the stalk that might have worked itself loose. If you remove the cowling under the steering column, you should be able to see the connection there.

The outside lights need to be turned to dipped beam for the main/high beam to work, I know this is obvious but the car may be new to you and you may not realise this.

Thanks Dec, quite used to the car as have had it some time now, All fuses are ok I do not know where to find the relay for the main beam However i would have thought it would be ok as the Flash works Fine,
Tried wiggling the Main lighting switch from behind and still nothing, Next step i guess is to pull the Stalk switch out and hopefully test it out with a meter. Thanks ted for the mention of the wiring colours, However does anyone know were to view the wiring diagram for this circuit ? Thanks to all and will keep you informed. |

Don't use a meter. Use a test light
