Srp will give some protection but its really a filler/polish, wax would be far better. I personally use dodo juice or collonite both are a paste wax which last a long time

I've got some ancient Poundland wax...!
Say there's 1cm of HD wax left in the pot but you can see the bottom in the centre, is that enough for a LWB W140? |

The car should last a week, though, shouldn't it? And I take it there's no way to rescue a lumpy, seemingly rusty bonnet star?

Thanks! They're imposing but not really in a bad way. The back is a bit dated but the rest of the car is as good as any RR or Bentley if not better. The interior was designed not to economise, not to be compact, but to be roomy with no expense spared. I mean it's huge inside!
And, I think, it's a timeless model - there are examples from 92/93 and you wouldn't think they were that old. I'm surprised at how well it's aged after my W124 which looked and acted much older! |

Get 1 cheap, low spec W140: 1996 Mercedes-Benz S280 | eBay
Get 1 cheap 3 litre diesel engine: W124 3.0 6 CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE + GEARBOX+ ALL ANCILERIES PERFECT CONVERSION | eBay Do a bit of tinkering, and there you have a very cheap and unique diesel W140 (or not...!) |

Nor did I until now!
OK, this one: MERCEDES BENZ S320 AUTO LIMO L.W.B | eBay and the 300 engine! A conversion would be fun, I'm sure you can practise in a scrap yard (and look a bit strange swapping engines in cars!) but I'm not sure that engine would shift that huge mass of steel! |
