It is a car, annoying yes but hardly worth the constant ranting. It can be fixed, just get a sense of perspective.

Be careful with this one, there have been reports of instances where accidents have occurred in transit and the vehicle has been repainted before it gets to the dealer without the dealer knowing, so the dealer assumes it left the factory like that. If you've ever seen MB's painted at the factory you realize it can't happen there. I'm not saying nothings ever left that wasn't perfect but major paint flaws never, it will almost certainly be down to a 3rd party paint repair

Thanks for that Flango , I wonder if these red cars leave the factory perfect and then say a couple of years down the road suffer a reaction with some sort of contamination in the air or some thing in the atmosphere that just starts the lacquer to break down just a theory there does seem to be a problem with red cars not just MB with the lacquer lifting away from the paint

It also happens more frequently on black cars too and the common denominator is that black and red pigments used in the paint are by far the cheapest of the colours. It always made me laugh when manufacturers charged extra for black when in reality it was cheaper to paint that car than the other colours, now that what you call marketing, nearly as good as Apple

Well they do look nice , It's a nice red ,Some reds look washed out dull to dark and do nothing for the car it's on

That's what attracted me to my one , It looked fantastic in the coupe version looked like it was doing 80 MPH standing still

And the paint was in great Nick that was in May this year when I bought it

Hi all my car has been at Mercedes today and they have confirmed its a paint defect all over the car!
Now they have to submit the report to Head Office Milton Keynes and take it from there?
At Waltham Cross they have never seen a car before go like this.
They don't have any answers either on what the outcome will be?

The positive in this is that you have the dealer on your side. Work with them and hopefully you'll get a solution that you'll be happy with.

If professionally resprayed, the car will be perfect.

Hopefully MB will own-up on this one.

Red is particularly good at absorbing the harmful UV light component of sunlight. For that reason its likely the degradation of any hidden paint defect would be accelerated.

To be honest I think MERCEDES BENZ are being a tad disingenuous about this.

Isn't that a standard 'stealer' response? keep on them...

Unfortunately I had the same problem on my 2008 C Class. Again it was fire opal. Local MB dealership were very understanding, taking photos and referred it to local body shop for a report as well as regional MB bodywork specialist. Sadly it got to Milton Keynes and ground to a halt. MBUK were not going to touch it and fobbed me off with all sorts of rubbish. I couldn't be bothered with fighting it and in the end I traded it in to MB and bought a silver one. Seeing your car is newer than mine there should be less room for MBUK to wriggle out of any responsibility.
Sorry for the rival post, but it does have pictures of my car's paint
I do hope you have better luck than me?

Hi Riders.
I take it you have not heard any thing from MB , It's been 3 weeks since I took my car to Dartford I phoned them last Friday week spoke to the guy I dealt with he assured me that they haven't forgotten me but they have not heard any thing so I will give them another ring on Monday and try to hurry them up

I have the same problem on my 2011 coupe. Just realised the other day while I was putting diesel as it doesn't show easily.
So far it looks like it affects the boot lid only. Car is out of guarantee so not sure how to proceed.

Hi SmartMac
I take it your car is also fire opal red , You might think it's only on the boot as I did but it might be on more panels than you think

I think your first point of call is the dealer you bought it from have them look at it even thou it's out of warranty and take it from there it can't be much out of warranty 2011 model
