I'm sure this was mentioned or attempted by V12 a while ago. Does anyone know if a dinosaur like the 190 can take comand at all, and how much work would be needed to fit it?

It can, and it works great. My car is the one with the tan interior and burlwood surrounds... You need an ML-Comand (Non Can-Bus) though, or a modified Can-Bus Comand though - otherwise it will keep switching off every 30minutes due to a lacking Can-Bus signal ;)
I did fit command, from an early W208, but before i even got the car back on the road i was unhappy with the lack of inputs/outputs, so have changed over to a pioneer system instead...

This should give you inspiration, a Comand installation in a Mazda Miata. If he can install it in a Miata, you should be able to handle this in an old MB.
