Im after a beefier alternator for my 1.8 190E as its only 55amp as standard. Does anyone know a straight swap alternator that offers a lot higher current figure?
Thanks

hmmm, yes i think theres the 126 ones that fits on... Where did i read about this???!! ive forgotten, but it can definately be done. At most, youll have to change the pulleys over as some have wider belts etc....

The 190E 2.6 aircon model alternator is rated at 90 amps as standard, and I think the 2.6 standard one is about 70-75.

Thanks for that Robby, looking for over 100amp alternator. I guess the largest capacity diesel with aircon must have the largest alternator?

According to haynes:
petrol 4 cyl : 55A/70A
petrol 6 cyl: 70A/90A
diesels: 55A/70A
Larger figures are for models with aircon.
Why are you looking for so much power? If its to fit a powerful stereo system/big sub, bear in mind the 190 has a substantial back seat with an even more substantial fuel tank bolted to the back of it, and the parcel shelf is set in place.
You can put smaller subs under the front seats though.

Well I do want to fit a basic setup made up of
Alpine 7894RB h/u
Alpine CHA 634 changer
Genesis Profile 4 Ultra amp
CDT CL-641 3 way components
JL 500/1 amp
RE SE 10v4 sub
I understand the boot is an issue and I can get round that. I guess I can upgrade the battery instead of the alt and just look at upgrading the big 3.

I don't want to put too much stress on my poor alternator ;)
