I’m looking to have the settings on my my W203 changed to NETHERLANDS so that the alarm chirps/bleeps when activated/deactivated during Lock/Unlock from the key ****. .

Please can someone confirm what settings need to be changed exactly by Star on the the vehicle, and weather this would effect any of the vehicle’s other settings, and weather the indicators would still flash when the vehicle is locked/unlocked in addition to the chirp/bleep as per usual?

I asked one stealership about this and they claimed to know nothing about it and say that it cannot be done (which is not true) !!!!

Just curious, why?

Isn't that sort of thing usually associated with old XR3'S, Cavaliers, Astra's and the like.

Fair point.... thats the last thing I would want to do any of my cars as everyething on them OEM from factory/options etc. apart from the Silvervision indicator bulbs in rear lenses. The reason I wanted the chirp/bleep is so that I don't have to look back over my shoulder to see if the vehilce is locked from pressing the key **** - just me being lasy. I'm just making some enquires at this stage thats all.

Yep , the indimicators still flash on and off in the way they did before , but now they have a lovely chirp when they flash :)

The dealer will claim to know nothing about it .. yada , yada , yada ... Yes it can be done , they just don't know how to do it.

They have to set the rear sam to netherlands first and its an option within another menu to set the chirp.

Both our W211 and W203 have had it done , with kind mechanics with a star.

Don't be surprised if they want an hours labour to do it. It aint worth an hours labour. :) Chance your arm ;)

Cheers Fuzzer,

It should not be more than a 5/10 mins job - no way am I going to pay them to actiavte the setting!!! If I still have the car when its due its first service then I'll ask the stealer to do it as good will (with no cost) or when I get my next car i'll ask sales person to arrange it during PDI.

Talking of this, my W140 alarm chirps when it feels like it. It will go chirping for days, then it will go silent for days. Everything else still works. Very strange..

:D LOL - ok - lets have a little vote - who think that I would be making a mistake changing to the Nethrlands setting/chiping of alarm i.e. XR3I etc. ? - If majority vote against then I wont have it done. Pleas give your opinions.

Cheers

It's a shame, these settings should be user selectable like the option to unlock just the drivers door on the first press or everything.

Flash,

Search on mbworld.org in the w203 forum.

A while back there were a lot of people from across the 'pond' discussing getting it done on there.

I think its cool to have it chirp...The only time its annoying is when i park up outside my flat in the courtyard late at night, im sure i wake everyone up!

I thought chirps had been banned because they are so annoying.

Surely you don't know it's locked, you just know that it chirped.
And don't all the latest MBs lock themselves after 30 secs anyway ?

:D LOL – tell me about it the chirp on the Sprinter p*sses of the other half. One noon she was taking a napp and said she was woken up by the alarm chirp on the Sprinter… But I prefer the reassurance of knowing that the vehicle is locked and alarm has activated without having to look over my shoulder or physically check.

On the newer Mercs the doors only automatically lock themselves if they are unlocked from the key**** and a single door is not opened within 30 seconds of the doors being unlocked.

I'd advice against this - the factory sound is no where near a "chirp", it's just an awfully annoying sound!!!

After a couple of weeks of initally emailing MB Tech Support and sending them 3 duplicate emails (because recieved no acknowledgement from them) I finally get a reply as per below:

Thank you for contacting the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center.

As per your request to have the alarm bleep/chirp every time the vehicle is
locked/unlocked, please be informed that this is not something that we are able
to do, as there is a legislation which has been passed concerning this function
on alarm systems and would effect the vehicles homologation.

Should you have any further requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us
at Customerservice.UK@mbcac.mercedes-benz.com

Yours Sincerely
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center N.V.

Useless as the Stealers that I have approcahed claim to know nothing about this "Netherlands setting". Guess no bleep/chirp mod for me.
