How do you get the update cd, do the MB dealers sell them or are they copied from somewhere?

I got mine from a website. http://www.geocities.com/comand12000/

Just follow the instructions so that you dont get bumped out.

just ask your friendly MB parts guy to order one - they only cost a few quid

I'll post the part number tomorrow as my cd is at work.

With absolutly nothing else to do at 00:41 this morning I downloaded it. Renamed it and burnt it to disk. No use at all to me, so if you want a copy just holler.

Interesting. In the OEM guidelines this part is designated as NEVER to be removed from workshop.

Why not order one & see what response you get . No harm in trying. it worked for me.

Just exactly what is on this CD? Is it purely electrics or does it contain other stuff? Furthermore is it necessary to have the Previous CD in order to use the info on the update?

The Cd updates certain Comand Functions . A bit like flashing a computer bios system with the latest fixes and features. When in Nav address entry mode, if your comand only displays letters relevant to the search (ie if there is no Z in a street name then Z is dimmed out) then you dont need the update. AS far as I know there isnt a previous one . Trying to apply the update to a comand that already has it wont do any harm - in fact comand will say its already up to date and stop the process.

There is nothing else on the CD.

Hope this helps.

That's very helpful, thank you. In my simple ignorance I did not know that such things were possible at home. I would have expected to have to go back to a Mercede$ dealer for something like that. Presumably, however, one needs the necessary bit of kit to connect the CD in the computer to the car. I am also wondering how I would get the car up the steps and into the study where I have my computer!! Any suggestions? (polite please)

Oh ...... the update runs of a bank of laptops in the trunk. Most post-update cars have about 50 litres less luggage space. Several major crashes have been blamed on Microsoft alone.

Or you could just insert the CD-ROM into the COMAND and run the update.

But you cant trust anything that isnt from Microsoft. It just seems to work too well.
