I have my favourite piece of Euro gear sitting in my garage doing nothing. Was wondering why no one ever installs a custom horn on any of their cars.

Personally I prefer the sound of the full blooded italian scream to the rather reserved nasal-belch of the stock unit.

I would like to know why so few people do this mod. I dont mind if you think it is stupid idea, just want some feedback.

Don't have any complaints with my W202 horn. Quite loud enough to make people jump, so don't think it needs any modification !

In contrast, my previous Honda had the weakest little sound that I have ever heard, and I would have changed it for something a bit more audible had I kept the car.

Not sure what the W203 horn sounds like, but if its a reversed nasal belch, then I guess it wouldn't hurt to upgrade it !

It's not so nasal ...... it sounds more like a Lima with its tail caught in an escalator.

Air horns are illegal in the UK unless your car was fitted originally with them, and it was illegal to fit them at the factory from sometime in the 1970s. I only know this because a friend of mine has an old MG and although it has a normal horn right now, it turns out it's a retrofit and he could still fit an original airhorn to it legally if he wanted.

Does this rule also apply to cars from Italy ..... I just cant imagine an Alfa Romeo with a normal horn or for that matter a Ferrari. These things really sound like "get the hell off the road when the lights are green" type of horn.
