Thanks

I have a Road Angel and the B2 seems better although I haven't tried it. The Road Angel is pretty basic, although it does what it says and gives plenty of notice of camera's.

The B2 is a better unit in terms of features and function. If however you are looking for a unit to change quickly between vehicles then the RoadAngel is well suited for this.
Does your vehicle have a comfort/UV reflective screen, if so you will need a extra GPS aerial for the RoadAngel for it to work properly whereas the OB2 has it as part of the kit

B2 every time for me. I just bought another - traded my 2 geodessy's (£150 for each one from networx automotive)
If you have family cars you want to swap between , you can buy an extra car mounting kit . We've three cars and now 2 complete b2's and 1 extra car kit .
B2 is smaller than road angel which makes for a more discrete mounting options and you dont get that ugly ugly laser detector that road angel insist you park in the middle of your windscreen. B2's is tiny & hides well.

The Origin B2 will aslo integrate with the LRC 100 laser jammer
mobilecentreuk - Welcome to the Forum.
As a supplier of various kit, do you have any views on the Snooper S4 Neo ?

Thank you for the welcome ! I have been a member for a while just not posted up ! The S4 is quite a good peice of kit, I would choose that over the RoadAngel due to its smaller size and more attractive laser detector ! The ultimate choice in my opinion is the Origin B2 though
@CAT MAN
I agree with you - bought one a month ago, and it was the dog's . . . for 3 weeks, but has suddenly failed on me. Equally, I know others who are very pleased with it and have no problems . . . I'm just trying to ascertain whether anybody has had problems, and if so what sort.

Snooper have had a run of "bad" luck with their devices such as the S6 which was I think recalled. The plus side is that you have your warranty which on that product is 24 months.

The Origin B2 will aslo integrate with the LRC 100 laser jammer
It sure does ! and works brilliantly. I just bought 2 LRC100 's as well. the B2 flashes up with DIFFUSER and beebs like crazy.
If anyone wants their LRC installtion testing try www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk
Yes - I'm investigating a possible warranty claim at the moment - just want to make sure that the product is generally reliable and that I have been genuinely unlucky before accepting a repair / replacement.
Just realised that this entire thread should have been posted in the electronics section . . . . Moving :)

I was going initially with the road angel few months back, but having seen the Origin B2 it looks better and is smaller, and that it was the recommended product on test on 5th Gear show.
I have a CLK, and didn't really want it fully integrated into the car as I don't mind the wires out, but could someone tell me what the other bits and pieces of the kit looks like and where they go as everywhere on the web they just show the device but not the rest that needs to be connected up with it.
I don't have a comfort or UV filter windscreen.
Also do Origin have a website or where do you go to download the updates?
Thanks

We offer a jammer testing service based in the midlands, ukspeedtraps can offer this in the North of England

The Origin B2 comes with a laser detector and a seperate aerial, the website is www.originb2.com
The B2 is normally very good, but recently mine has failed on me twice. A couple of weeks ago it would not pick up any sats.. this turned out to be a cradle fault. I took the unit to the Origin offices in London, they identified the fault and gave me a new cradle.. all whilst I waited. Currently the speaker is not working, so it flashes and displays the alerts but without sounds. Guna go and see them tmr, hopefully another quick fix.
Regardless of these two faults I would 100% recommended it, as its neat, effecient and the customer support is brilliant. The updates are easy and quick to perform via a serial cable and internet update program that is supplied. A seperate modem is available if you don't have one. To make things perfect I wish they would make a USB cable rather serial.

I think USB is on the cards as we speak, on the flip side to this the unit is avaialble with an optional modem so MAC users and those without a PC can still use the device.

I'm looking forward to being able to have a look at a few installations of these things at the gtg next month. General opinion is I should prob have something along these lines in my car - dunno why :p but I like the clean look - can't stand wires n stuff - so be good to see how tidy some of you have yours - or not :D
There are some bad pics of mine in the members gallery...
Re: My previous comments in this thread about the Snooper S4 - I'm pleased to report that it has come back to life !
Seemed to take 20 mins to lock on, but has been fine since then - so hoping that it was just a temporary "blip" after it lost the signal for some reason.
Still a bit puzzled as to why it went to sleep in the first place, but hoping that it will behave itself, as I am otherwise very pleased with it, and would be sorry to see it go :(

Hi,
I was looking to buy some form of radar detector device, possibly a Micro roadpilot with radar dector add on.
Has anybody had experience of using any if this type of equipment on the continent?
Does anybody know if the GPRS based systems have a roaming contract abroad. I seem to thin some of them di in Benilux
I am aware that radar detectors are.... ahem.... "illegal" in France, but if I forget to turn the power off can I help it ;)
Cheers

A far as I know, the only one that works in BEnelux is the Morpheous Stuff, Geodessy , Road Pilot, Micro pilot.
Betst people to ask I reckon are networx automotive - they are really very helpful and stock just about everything on the market

I've just paid for a lifetime renewal on my Road Angel subscription. I asked if there is a new product coming out and she said all she could say was yes and it is being released at the Motor Show next week.
My subscription is not transferable, but does go with the device if I sell it on.
Glad I will be there to see it!

Hi,
I use the new `Bell Euro 550`, this can be set to each countries police standard. I had a snooper last Year but it let me down in France a couple of times

The Origin B2 for a permanent installation
The RoadAngel for an easy to swap between behicles solution

thanks everyone.

I was under the impression that the best way to detect a speeding camera was to drive a car too fast.

how many cars do you move between?
I bought an extra car kit for the B2 . 3 cars , 2 B2's and 1 extra car kit

If the budget will strech that is the best bet a 2nd car kit for the OB2

I have five cars. The number of cars is not my issue but the fact that I don't want to mess with the electrics for any of the cars, and just want it to plug in, mount and go. Therefore I do not want too many cables and less things to mount on screen. I think the Road Angel (new) fits the bill. There is quite a bit of wiring for the Origin B2.
Thanks

The OB2 is modular, everything plugs in, this enables a neater install rather than being tied to the centre of the dash
barflux
31-05-2004, 11:53 AM
What do you mean by neater install? As I was under the impression that you need the Origin B2 Display unit, GPS Sensor, and Laser Sensor all to be located somewhere and that was my problem I not keen on hiding the wires behind panels and using the car wires to source the power for the unit, where the Road Angel is just one unit which mounts to the screen, and to the cig adapter (I think). Correct me if I am wrong?
steve_bcs
31-05-2004, 10:06 PM
The OB2 only comes with a cigar lighter power source anyway. I cut it off to hardwire my units . but you are right, there are more connectors to fiddle with on the OB2 so the new road angel will probably be your best bet after all

There are no new road angels available at the moment from Blackspot till next week. Are there any deals on the net?
They are selling them at the motorshow though. If anyone is going, can you let me know how much there going for. I doubt they will be cheaper, but thought I'd ask anyway.
What subscription to take? 1,2, or 3 years?
Cheers
RichardM
01-06-2004, 03:24 PM
When you buy the box it comes with 6 months subscription, you don't have to think about what option to take until that runs out.
I got my new Road Angel on saturday and installed it in the car, and I'm not that impressed with it. They have sorted out the volume, the old one was too quiet to hear over my stereo but there's no much else going for it, I think I should have got the b2.
It is a neat unit though with everything built in.
My main complaint is the loud beeping when switching it on which you can't seem to turn down. Only had it a couple of days and I'm annoyed with it.

Having met Tim from MoileCentre today at the Motor Show who made me feel a bit of a VIP on both his and the Blackspot stand, if and when I upgrade the B2 has it in the bag.
The Road Angel is not dead yet though. Sometimes you forget how good you have got it!

Its not often that you get offered drinks by the guy who runs RoadAngel ! At least you did not have to queue up to get onto the stand ! And you also had the unbiased opinion of Steve Warren from ukspeedtraps.co.uk

I will be attending the kettering meet with most of the products that we sell and my laser gun.

Hi,
What speed guns do police use (laser or radar)? I drove by one on the Motorway, only saw it after I was passing a lorry, how soon would the Police been detected by either of the speed detectors?
Anyone had any experience, where it has saved you.

There is an Origin B2 Solo comming out on 14/6/04, the cradle has the GPS built in?
Still deciding....

The solo is a B2 with an onboard aerial. I have these in stock. Best defence against mobile camera vans and hand held laser guns is a jammer

I use an LTi 20-20 which is the most popular laser gun in the uk. It takes 0.3 seconds to calculate your speed !

What happenes once the police have noticed you speeding with a handheld gun? Do they send a ticket in the post, or do they need to catch you?

I wouldnt mind a quick test of my SL set up please at the GTG
I have a question re: Origin B2 Solo.
1. Is the only difference the cradle, which includes a GPS aerial?
2. If you opt for this, can you still get a "normal" car kit for a second car - mine has IR glass and needs an external aerial.
Are there any other differences? I am thinking about a RoadAngel (new) vs this one. It seems the Origin has far more information, but needs a professional install. The RA more or less plugs in and goes it seems.
My concern is finding a reliable installer for the Origin (S500 Merc, 2000 MY)
Any thoughts?
thanks

Since this thread started has there been any better detector produced, and are the enforcement agencies using more 'undectable' methods. Average speed over measured distance?
What detector would you buy if you went shopping tomorrow and why?
Regards to you all,
John
I still have an Origin B2, although its now the solo version as I have a portable cradle for swapping between cars and a fixed cradle in the SL.
My brother has a Road angel, and handsdown the Origin is the better by far in our opinion.
Other reasons for choosing the B2 would be as I stated earlier in the thread.
Regards
Tan
I'd buy a B2 if I was buying today John .... in fact, will probably be selling my Snooper S4 soon, in favour of one of these.

My Snooper S4 is up for sale too, damn good unit, I just dont drive fast anymore. The thing I dont like about these devices is that your car ends up looking like inspector gadget's car.
Just sticking with the TomTomGo now.
