Hi,

Can anyone offer me any advice, please - I am picking up a new C220 CDI next month, and I have the Pre-Install for Mobile option. That means that I need to buy a specific cradle for my phone. I intend to buy a new phone at the same time (a Nokia 6230), so I've just asked Mercedes in London how much the cradle would be.

The answer wasn't very helpful:

Subject: Telephone cradle for Nokia 6230

Hi,

I was given your number by Gabi Brodmerkel at MB Mayfair: would you be able to tell me how much a phone cradle will cost that will enable the use of a Nokia 6230 in a Mercedes C220 CDI, please?

Thanks

Does anyone know:

- Who MBAG are, and can I contact them direct? (I looked on Google, but didn't get very far).
- What phone cradles do they offer?
- Will they release ones for newer phones, or do they get stuck in the past?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

As far as I know MB only do a phone kit for the Nokia 6310i for teh 203 C class.

Is your car the present model or is it the facelift one which I think has an electrical system similar to the E class ie the MOST fibre optic system - which is used to connect phones, Sat Nav, CD changer etc. Teh facelift car may have more phone options. Is there anything about supported phones in the MB options brochure?

MBAG = Mercedes Benz AktienGesellschaft, or Mercedes Benz Limited if you prefer.

It's the facelift model. May I ask how you know so much about the differences in the new model, and where I might be able to read more? MB Mayfair mentioned that 'it looks a bit different, and there are a few other changes', but that was about everything they told me. I've just sold an 'old model' C220 CDI, today, so I am curious what to expect when I pick up the new one next month.

Thank you.

Mostly supposition on my part, I heard the new C class facelift car has a DVD comand system the same as the E Class , which if true means its probably using the "Most" fibre optic system. Phone kits are not interchangeable between the normal fibre system and the new Most system .

Easiest way to check is to ask what version of Comand the new car has - thats the key to its electrical system configuration.

The New facelift C class has a DVD navigation comand but the slot in the Comand is a CD player only, no DVD unfortunately. The DVD navigation unit is in the Boot as per the new E class. The new system is MOST like the E class and the New SLK. The TV tuner is not offerred as anymore in the C class and Linguatronic now allows control of all functions including full navigation and telephone.

The option for phones available(as listed above but also includes the Siemens S55, C55 and the M55 and in the Forseeable future the Ericsson T610(no exact date yet)) for the Facelifted C class are also available for the older C class models.

Here's an company that install dash-mounted brackets for any cradle/car-kit.

http://www.siocommunications.co.uk/installations.html

Their picture for the W203 looks OK too http://www.siocommunications.co.uk/Dashmount_files/71332_Mercedes_C-Class_W203.jpg

I'm thinking about phone options, just to comply with law from the drive to and from work. Currectly I have a Nokia ear piece and mike with built in on/off button.

I don't need to charge, or an aerial (though doesn't the manual say something about inteferrence with the car's electronics if you don't have an aerial - any experienced problems ?)

Bluetooth, MB steering wheel controls, and this new device from Nokia http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,58584,00.html . Not made up my mind yet (a.k.a. totally confused)

Only the PSE is different. The wiring and cradles are identical. The only reason why a MOST PSE from an e-class wont work in a C-class is the MOST version software.

It has already been attempted by MBenzNL to exchange MOST bridge components and other MOST parts across models and it doesnt work as easily as D2B technology.

I believe the cradles to suit the above listed Siemens, Motorola, Sony and the first 3 listed Nokia phones are available now.

But does anyone know if or when the cradle to suit the remaining Nokias is available? (mainly interested in the 6230)

I got an external car kit fitted for the nokia 6310i - its linked to the audio mute and uses an external speaker.

I will post a pic in the gallery

I think an install (driving out in the london area) and a bluetooth external mount (i.e. you can use your phone direct in the cradle or bluetooth for other options) was around £200.
