I want to upgrade the standard speakers in mr R129 500 SL. Has anyone got any ideas please, i would deffinatley like to have more base, as the current system sounds like listening to music in a baked bean can.
Thanking you in advance for your help and support.
thank you

Hi,
I fitted the original 129 Bose speakers and fitted some alpine tweeters into the dash locations, Ran them off a Bose amp from a 140, just to keep the headunit and cd changer all OEM.
It sounds surprisingly good, i got the pair of speakers for £80, the tweeters for £10 and put a capacitor in line to cut the low frequencies.
Was a cheap fix, which actually outdoes my own front end for tonal quality, just not output.
Can get the part numbers if you want for the bose speakers, they can be ordered through any MB dealer...

Hi V12
Thanks For Your Reply, Ok....where Do I Start.... Does My 129 Have A Standard Amp Fitted??? I Am Not Sure...however On The Doors There Are Two Sets Of Speakers And The Tweeters In The Dash Locations. What Does Bose Provide..... Basically I Need To Increase The Base Volume And Quality..... And How Easy Is It To Access The Door Speakers?
Thanks Again (am I Asking Too Much) Yes The Part Numbers Would Be Great.
Thank You Again
Ok,
No you do not have an amp fitted as standard, this will increase everything, even with the standard speakers...
Bose basically offer much better Audio systems that are fitted from the factory on some MB's and optional on most.
To change the speakers you will have to remove your door panel.
Once off, both speakers are contained within a pod, you can either replace it directly with a bose one, or you can do a bit of cutting etc and fit any set of speakers you want...

Hi
Do anyone know what the full Bose install in the 129 consisted of? I have the bose Speakers and Amp and the Rear speakers but these have been cut out of their original mountings so that the previous owner could install the rear seats.
Basically I think there was a bass unit of some description but have never been able to get hold of any information about it??
Regards
Tan
I am led to believe the sub bass unit is part number A129 820 1402.
It's description is : Loudspeaker, Parcel Rack, Rear left.
There is not a corrosponding side to this.
Ther installation i was doing, the guy did not want me to order this, so never actually seen it TBH!

Cheers Ricky
BTW: Where is the amp normally mounted? Mine is behind the passenger seat, thus making the already tiny real leg room almost useless.
Regards
Tan
You mean they are meant to be seats!!?? ;)
I mounted it in the boot, in the NS recess...was extremely difficult to get the loom through but i got there in the end.
I think OEM is under the rear seat on the drivers side...

Would anyone know what sizes the existing speakers are in a r129, V12 i read a post of yours from 2 years ago which I think said 6" & 4", is this correct, or is it 6.5" and 3.5".
Cheers
Yes, i think the oem size is 6.5 and 3.5, but the range of 3.5 is scarse, so have fitted 4" instead...

I know they changed the door card, which is why I thought I'd ask, any other way of finding out?
