 I'm having problems with my S500 climate control.
When i change the settings for direction of air my centre vents stop blowing out air. I have the 2 button on the centre vent, blue and red. On my last S class , 95 model i had a similar setup but with the round dials for temperature. When i pressed on the buttons on the vent air came out of them. Once they start working it blows out air till i change the direction of air flow e.g up towards the windscreen. When i press the button on the centre vents the arrow comes up in climate control indicating that air is being passed throught the centre vents. But nothing comes out. If i keep pressing the direction key it sometimes starts working or just starts working by itself!!
ANy idea whats wrong?
Also i have noticed after i turn the fan speed beyond half spped it does not increase speed. Could the 2 problems be related?
Have you tried changing the air filter under the dash, when i had probs with my climate control the dealer changed the whole climate control system but never cured the problems, recently another dealer changed the filter and all was sorted.

yes i think part of the prob is the pollen filter is blocked. Cheap to replace, in the dash in passenger side footwell.

Just changed it but no joy i'm afraid. Still the same.

what about the main filter - open bonnet, nearside large pentagon (square with triangle on end) cover - about 10" long, 5 or 6 allen bolts. I gave mine a hoover and the air flow was better.
also try re-setting the air con by pulling fuse? absolutely no idea if this makes any difference.... ;)

had a look at the epc - the 'circulating filter' is under the bonnet - whilst there check fan is good
also 'dust filter' is under there and 'activated charcoal' filter...

Checked all those. Cleaned out all filters etc but still no joy. Blower motor was replaced 3 months ago by merc, just read the service report from previous owner! Still no joy! Any other suggestions>??

i have no idea how it works - i just leave mine on auto unless im de-fogging the screen.
i do know that i get air when i press blue or red - and basically dont when im in auto mode.
maybe its supposed to be like this? are the auto buttons completely off (have to change diection and flow manually)?
pm me - and we'll do a phone-call-try-out-our-air-systems conference call? ;)

Cheers mate i've tried it with my neighbours CL. The basic problem i'm getting is no air when i press the blue switch for cold air and a very slow motor. The motor has been changed however!
When i hit the blue swutch, regardless of what setting the climate control is on, my neighbours car knocked out cold air out of the centree vents. However on mine there was nothing. If i keep pressing the button that distributes the air up down or centrally it somethimes starts to work.

if you set the main controls to freezing - do you get cold air - at full tilt?
there is a good chance the air con fluid is low - thus the system wont give you cold air flow - theres a guy in america with a site (s 500 coupe (http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_S500.html) who has some diagnostic methods of testing the air con by pressing buttons - or get the fluid pressure tested?
that would only apply if the air blows slow with cold, but fast with hot...

what i ment was - do you get any freezing air when the main controls (wheel or digital) is set to minimum. And - do you get hot air on hot / red button...
Completely guessing.... :D

When i turn the temperature to Low i get freezing cold air but no air at all from the centre vents. If i press the blue button on the centre vent then i still don't get any air even thought the display on the climate control says it will. When i put the temperatur on high i get hot air but nothing through the centre vents when i press the blue button. If i press the red one then i get hot air.

so the centre air control flap / fan MUST be working - as air comes through when on hot. it just doesn't come through on cold.
weird.
have you tried re-setting the air con computer by fuse pulling?
