Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows, or if anyone could look up on WIS how to install illuminated sills onto a W245 for front doors only. There is a powerfeed for each one, plus a relay and a link up to the door light circuit for each one. I need to know where these plugs plug in on each side. All help gratefully received, thanks. (Dealership will not help me & referred me to WIS, which is unavailable to private individuals!)

Eek
The power feed connects to an accessory loom which you must install - that connects to the fusebox under driver's feed
To get to that to install stuff you have to take out the driver's seat, (re)move carpet and battery and install that harness in
You can subscribe to WIS for one day at www.startekinfo.com - you have to pretend you are in US by using the number of your house in the house number field, and the digits of your postcode, with zeros appended to make 5 digits as the ZIP code so that the credit card authentication works with your faked up address
Richard
ps, sorry this is a bit of a half answer, I've taken the fusebox out of a A/B class before, but not installed the illuminated sills so thats why its a half answer

Sorry for an off-topic question but are you sure they do not check that the credit card is for a US citizen (or at least given by a US bank to a person living in the US)? This is what they do for EPC which US citizens can access for free (the credit card check prevents us getting access for free).
A bit on the actual topic, I understood the car owner having the door sills but lacking both the accessories harness as well as the actual illuminated door sills harness and the inverters. The door sill harness includes a connector for the inverters. I cannot see any plug-in connectors at the car which the owner seemed to expect.

They seem to use the global credit card checking mechanism and no extra stuff
This basically means, check the name, check the numbers in the 1st line of the address, check the numbers in the post code ignoring trailing zeros
It may of course have got more smart since I last checked - but US WIS is far cheaper than Euro WIS !!
Sadly Apple are more savvy with itunes and check the zip you enter is valid in terms of the state you supplied - and there are no zip codes ending in 000 and I have only 2 numbers in my postcode. So I buy itunes US$ vouchers when i'm in the US instead :-)
Where is the US EPCnet site ??

Hi Richard, thanks for that. Would you know whether this accessory loom is purely for the sills, or might I have it in the car already, depending on what other options are on the car?
Thanks,
Matt

99% sure it wont be in the car. Nothing extra is in the car - almost never is now a days.
Acessory loom is B 6 788 51 52 - the red wire goes into fuse contact 33, the red/black into 41 and the brown to earth at the ground point on the outside edge of the right passenger footwell.
This then gives you power connections that plug into the wiring that comes with the sills. There is one more wire on the sill loom that connects to the front SAM (that tells it when to turn the lights on)
Im not quite sure why you have a relay though. Unless of course you have an after-market set - then its anyone's guess as to the exact wiring - but you 'll still need the power feeds ..

Perhaps the relay is in reality the inverter?

Richard, afaik, it is genuine MB (via ebay)- looks authentic, good quality, all badged up with appropriate MB labels & in MB box with correct part number.
Perhaps the relay is in reality the inverter?
It could well be an inverter or some kind of LED ballast.
I will try to get a picture on, but it may take me a few days
Thanks to you both for help,
Matt

Hi, sorry for long delay, while sorting pics!
The white connector in the middle pic has just 2 used pins (of 4)
Richard, do I still need the loom?
Where should the ?ballast/inverter be sited into the car? I presume these to be a low->high voltage converter.
Thanks for all help

You need two additional looms..
Put up your email address (you haven't enough posts for a PM) and I'll send you the WIS retrofit docs.
You can edit out the addy as soon as I've copied it!

No help with fitting them i'm afraid , but that is an inverter .
The EL strips in the sills run at 110v , the inverter steps the 12v dc up to 110v ...

I have just bought a set of illuminated sills , minus the EL strips and inverters for my w208 CLK , i sourced a set of strips and inverters from the US for about £25 for the pair.
Good luck

Isn't it amazing that two MB dealers both said that there was nothing else needed to fit this kit??
That is the advantage of a great forum like this and it's members!

It's cos they don't want you doing it yourself , they want you to say to them ' I want illuminated sills , will you fit them for me please ? '
A pal of mine had a pair of illuminated sills fitted to his CL65 and MB billed him just shy of a grand.

Hi Howard,
I actually have 2 sets of front sills, as I bought a pack of different items from a dealer on ebay at a great price. Hence I have all the electrics required to do front & rear install, but just need different plastic mouldings for rears. Where did you source yours from, please?
Or does anyone know if it is possible to buy individual items (the mouldings) from the illuminated sills pack from MB??
Many Thanks,
Matt
