How many times in a year are maps for the w211 e.g. updated or a new dvd produced? Does the update apply to the map itself or do you need the new complete dvd with the new map? Sorry I'm slightly confused and probably asking a question with a very simple answer.
Regards.

The mapping software is wrote by NAVTEQ, they pass on regular updates to Mercedes-Benz who then decide when they will release new DVD's. Some year's we see 2 updates, other years there are more. The new DVD is backward compatible and you do not need to keep older disks. They also cover the whole of Europe.

Regards
John

Edit it could well be that Teleatlas are now providing the mapping software :)

I have not heard of any change from Navteq to Tele-Atlas, any more info about this? The US site seems to cover W211 models up to 2007 but the latest map seemed to be 7 something, perhaps the US maps do not have V8 at the moment. Tele-Atlas seemed to cover only W210.

As John says. If you look on the back of the case for the latest APS disks (DVD's), you will see it says Teleatlas on them. Now, I dont know about the USA disks as they use a completely different system so I cant comment on that.

Hello again folks!
I have been downloading MB Comand APS MAP 8.0 Europe from a p2p network. I will burn it on to a DVD. But, will my Comand read the new dvd? My car is a E320 CDI 2004, but I don`t know how to find which version of Comand I have.

Will it be any risk of damaging the system by trying out the new map-dvd?
Will i need a update of the Comand ?

I also downloaded something called Nav Service DVD - anyone familiar whit this? Guess i should be careful?

Sounds interesting. Which P2P can we get this from?

To me it just sounds illegal, I believe to you Alfie too.

These peer-to-peer network copies are probably one reason why the MB discs cost as much as they do.

Hi,
I will like to buy the latest navigation dvd for my w211 E320 cdi. What i would like to know is if I need any extra updates to the system.
At this moment I'm using:
Navigation-DVD Comand APS 2007. Europe
A 211 8279559
B 6 782 3659
Version 6
Do I just insert the new dvd and go, or will I need to update the firmware?
Regards.
Ted

With Version 8 you just put it in the navigation drive and thats it.

If you want ETA on the screen then you will need the head unit update.

Hi,
I'm sorry if am asking to many questions but when you mention head unit you mean the one inside the car or the one in the boot. I just don't want to mess the system up by putting the dvd in the wrong unit.
I thank you again.

Head unit is the one in the car that you see and use. Navigation unit is the one in the boot. Its not possible to mess it up by putting wrong disks in wrong components. No harm will come if you do.
