Hi,
I have been searching the forum for help with a central locking problem on my daughters car. The car is a 2003 C180k Coupe. The problem started 2 days ago and when the car is locked or unlocked with the remote the drivers door locks/unlocks rapidly about 5 or six times. From what I have read, this appears to suggest a broken spring in the central locking motor. The door pin does not operate smoothly, it feels spongy if you try to lock the door manually by pushing down on the button.

There has been some bodywork on the drivers door. Question is, is it definitely going to be the door locking motor or could it be linkage related? How difficult is it to replace yourself, I have found instructions for removing the door panel which looks OK, but I believe you have to drill out the rivets holding the airbag, etc. If it is this awkward, I assume a dealer fit would be very expensive? Any advice gratefully received.

So much for German build quality, I have never had to replace a door locking motor on any other car, and certainly not one that is only 4 years old.

Well, I have pulled the door panel off and the good news is I can't see any reason to remove the airbag or anything else to replace the central locking motor. Must be because the doors are wider than the saloons.

Next question, has anybody changed one out on a Coupe. I can't see how to remove it, has anyone got an exploded diagram? There are some screws on the edge of the door that may hold it in but I don't want to start ripping screws out without know what they hold in.

How did you get on? I appear to have the same problem on my estate

Hi, Before you try to remove the motor, there is a rubber bellow at the top with the locking pin....Use a pair of long nose pliers to lift the rubber up, you will need to remove the top corner of the sound deading. If the rubber is damaged , unscrew locking pin then pull rubber out, if there are any cracks use some micropore tape to repair, refit and check functionality. MB keep this one to themselves. If this fails and you need to remove the locking mechanism, you will find three screws holding it in place, remove them, drill out the two pot rivets at the bottom of the door holding in the window mechanism, reach your hand up inside door and remove, the doo handle lock may also nee to be removed. Hopefully the rubber is all thats needed.
