Hi, went to the local Mercedes dealer yesterday to start negotiations on a new E-Class, I specified the new COMAND system, available from June onwards, that comes as standard with the 6 CD changer, Bluetooth, Linguatronics, and SD card slot. He denied all knowledge of it and insisted on pricing in a 6 Cd changer and a phone pre-wire with cradle, by the way when I asked about an end of line discount on the present model E-Class, he also denied all knowledge of a new E-Class coming out early next year! I left the showroom wondering if I was starting to imagine things, or do they all treat you as a muppet?

Hi John, the only date quoted at present, that I have seen is "The first quarter 2009", the salesman told me that they know 18 months in advance of any new models, but he knew nothing of a new E-Class. I detect a little porky in his statement somewhere! Maybe it was the shock of being asked for a discount:rolleyes:

Hi crockers, no, there is another one in Liverpool, about 5 miles away, but this one is convenient, that is the main reason I went there, but maybe I will try somewhere else, it can't get worse, or can it?

Hi Phil,
Thank you very much for taking the time to post the link.

I think we are all awaiting the firm release date and I don't suppose it will be anytime soon.

I envy you having a choice of dealerships to go to. I cannot even begin to work out the distance I would have to travel to find a completely different dealer. Plymouth, Exeter and Taunton are all owned by the same group, so there is never a chance of playing one against the other.

Do you believe any dealer will offer a discount because the E-class is being replaced? I wish you luck and hopefully you will enjoy going through all the options.

My advice would be to NOT rely on sales staff being the font of ALL information. There are quite literally hundreds of different options, for all the different models that are made. Look at the options, ask and if in doubt ask to see a vehicle with the specific option that your interested in.

I take it your ordering the saloon?

good luck

Regards
John

March 2009 for the continental Europe (RHD) has been stated for at least a year here: http://www.jesmb.de/coming.htm

The new Navigation unit is available now for the W/S211. There are already certain discounts for the "old" W211, mainly option packages at lower cost.

Find another dealer. This one is trying to sell you old stock.

You can negotiate your deal with any dealer in europe if you choose to so shop around.

I bought my last two cars from dealers hundreds of miles from me. You dont owe any loyalty to any one dealership and warranty issues are resolved by any dealer.

I bought and paid in full for my last Mercedes without even seeing it! Mind you, I knew that I could refuse it if it showed up and was not as described ;-)

Obviously so. Just another option to consider. You never know, it might be the right option. Clearly won't have the latest Command.

Visit another dealer, dealer too far. You don't know how lucky you are.

"A" service due in October means 36 hours away from home. £400 just to get to nearest dealer plus cost of service. Oh! plus 40 miles driving (with diesel at 145p per litre). But all worth it to live in a beautifull and peacefull place.;)

Hi John, the dealer is getting back to me tomorrow with a price, will let you know how I get on, I am ordering the saloon, admittedly with the folding rear seat option for when it is needed.
Have asked him to quote on the following, the options are specific and not open to negotiation, I have spent three months researching the car and what I want from it:-
220CDI Elegance (Flint Grey or Cubanite Silver, undecided as yet)
Palma Grey Leather,
COMAND
Parktronic
Parameter Steering,
Harmon\Kardon Sound System
Comfort Seats
Keyless Go
DAB Radio
Wood\Leather Steering Wheel
Split Rear Seats
6 Spoke Alloys

Get yourself a quote off drivethedeal.com and enjoy the negotiations far more....£33383.58 (£7,169.92 off) today on the website for your spec and listing both HDD COMAND packs - this quote is for the dearer one.

We have now used them twice (last was for a Golf where they use a Midlands fleet dealer) and the service is fantastic.

Believe ( could be wrong) the prices on this site are for cars delivered by end June (site needs updating!) and I would guess are in stock or pre-reg so would probabaly be difficult to find that spec.

Having said that have used them with no problem.

Certainly useful as a negotiation aid!

Hi guys, drivethedeal don't list pre-regs or stock cars as a rule - if they do they are in the "specials" list not the configurator.

Both ours were bespoke factory orders.

Give them a call - they will soon let you know their current best price for a factory order and also if they have access to one near or over your spec at a special price.

They have a list of dealers that they work with and effectively get individuals access to fleet rates.

I liked the simplicity of a good price and paying only on pick-up from the dealer (the options were free delivery or pick up with a full tank instead).

The dealer also took our part-ex.

will the new nav unit fit into my 57 plate w211?

I was searching for the button next to the one saying "thanks" but the forum does not yet have a button saying "alfie & richard will tell you it soon".

It should fit physically but from the wiring diagrams it looks pretty self-contained, meaning it might work for a basic Audio 20CD car without any other MOST stuff better than for a car with AGW.

I'm sure retrofit experts are already working on it but so far I have not seen any one reporting success.

We are fairly confident that the new MY2009 E class comand will fit in the Pre MY2009 W211 cars. Similarly we think the MY2009 A/B/C and CLk units will fit in their predecessors respectively. However we have not tested this theory but we will do so soon ;-)

Hi John, dealer finally got back to me, he said as it was an outgoing nmodel he would give me a very good price and offered it to me for £39,000 instead of £41,000 and "how did that sound", told him I will get back to him when I have finished laughing. Phoned drivethedeal.com and he said to take no notice of the price on their website as the promotion has finished, whereas motorlogix.com are still ready to supply the same spec at £33,800, wonder what I should do?

If your looking at a new car with a £7000 discount then I know what I would do.

Alfie is talking about fitting the new style COMAND in the latest E-class. You could also sell the old new one :)

I remember looking over a Land Rover 110 Country Station Wagon at one of the South-West's major dealerships. It was 1988 or 1989. The salesman fervently denied that Land Rover was developing anything between the proper Land Rover and the Range Rover. A few months later the Discovery rolled out.

Ergo, the car salesman's motto is: "Sell wot you got"

Ergo, the car salesman's motto is: "Sell wot you got"I suppose the sales person needs food on his plate today rather than sometime next year.

Having said that in my experience sales folks know very little about future policies and I suppose it might be fair to say; 'There is to sell or die, not to reason why!'
