Hi all,

Just brought a 1999 c280 estate. well swopped it with a cash adjustment for my s type 2003 sport, with the brother in law. he was robbed!! what a car. anyway it has xenon headlights but needs a ballast/ignitor, i have removed the duff unit it is marked Bosch with 944 stamped on it. where , who and how much. all replies appreicated.

Have you tried a main dealer, sometimes their prices are quite good. You could also try a major Bosch stockist etc in your area.

On a 99 c-class, they are surely not factory fitted xenons, rather retrofits? :confused:

The car must have self-levelling and headlamp washers for that to be legal.

Yes your right,

It has self leveling and washers. I will try the stealers and get a base price. Thats one of the reasons I said the bro in law was robbed, also air con, sat nav, multi changer, cruise, f/r parking sensors, auto and the 280 V6.

All it has on it is bosch and 944 stamped on the case !!!!

I mentioned this to someone earlier and he couldnt' recall bosch ever making ballasts. Looked on the net and it does mention several times about if your ballast is stamped with bosch then it is a cheap copy.
Might be worth looking into.

nope oem ballasts are bosch..

On facelift W202 models HID was an option, a LOT of C43s have xenons.
Have you tried a main dealer, sometimes their prices are quite good. You could also try a major Bosch stockist etc in your area.
The price for HID components is insane from the stealership!
