I have splashed out on a portable DVD for in the car and around and about but it is very quiet in the car so I am looking to put it through a small amp.
The question is can I take the output from this amp and splice it into the existing car speakers or will it "back feed" into the car head unit and damage it.
HEEEELLLPPP!!
Cheers
Mark

If you do a search on ebay for "fm modulator" this will solve your problem. they are about £30 and the audio out from the dvd player plugs in and this is then sent to the radio as a certain fm frequency that you program into one of your radio presets. so when you hit that particular preset button the sound of your dvd will be heard through speakers. the fixed ones that plug into the earial cable are better than the cordless ones and cheaper. link for one below.

Although this may be the answer do you know if there would be an issue connecting the way I thought in the origional post, just a thought that a direct connection must be better than going through a mod box.
Thanks

it's never a good idea to connect 2 outputs together, you will probably damage both pieces of equipment.

The modulator is the easiest way to go, but not the best. If your playing DVD's then I presume they are for long distances. I had problems with a modulator travelling from Manchester to London and back. The modulator I have has got 3 selectable frequencies. Unfortunately, if I choose a good one in Manchester, then I will get breakthrough as I pass Rugby and the same if I choose a good frequency for London, a station around the north west overpowers it. Plus you have to power the modulator on and off when using the radio/DVD

Even the tape head adaptors are better than modulators (IMHO)

An aux input will always be the best solution. If you have the standard MB radio, then you probably don't have an AUX input.

Command systems have the aux input facility, you just need extra wiring to attach to it.

Alternatively change your head unit, which is what I did.

I have a nice Panasonic CQHX2083 head unit with mp3 and Aux inputs. (nice)

Do you use the changer, if not, get an aux input adaptor for that.

You can get CD changer adaptors for alpines that turn the changer input into an aux input. Check the web for them, most good car audio stores should be able to get you one or have one in stock. I did that with my Volvo, changed the 6 CD input into an aux for my mp3 player.

Hi Mark ,

It was something i came up with when i had my W202 . Its basically the 6 cd holder which fits in the hole under the head unit with two small screws at the top. the rubberised tray comes out and ive drilled two holes in it and fitted gold chassis phono female connectors to it with phono male connectors (RCA) on the end. :) It was for when i had my nakamichi head unit with the aux in and i used my IPOD with it too.

Pm me if youre interested .

Some pics of the unit in the car, Audio to still be sorted.
Unit just hooks in and out of the air vents so can be taken anywhere.

Looks very smart :D Actually looks quite neat too for something that hooks onto air vents. :) And you don't have the hassle of it switching off video after 5mph ;)
