one of them has blown.
was thinking whether there is "white" light replacement to ape the Xenons .. last time I checked, it wasn't available.
Anyone managed to get anything remotely white?

Single LED 501 White bulb should do the trick nicely.

No problem Sean, I have used them in the past and have only been very pleased with the results. Its the multiple blue LED ones that you want to avoid those give a very deep blue chav look. Hopefully they shouldnt trigger the lamp defective warning.

I cant quite remember but.....I think the w202 use w5w bulbs for side lights but the clk uses a w6w which is a different fitting? more like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Ba9s-1895-363-Bayonet-Xenon-W6W-Super-White-Bulb-5-W_W0QQitemZ160087041514QQihZ006QQcategoryZ94850QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I put in white led's into the front at the weekend, it sends the check light warning light on, guess they will have to come out again:mad:

Is H6W the same as W6W?
What's the difference, if any?

These only use 1W so they must trip the lamp warning switch right??????
I think Piaa do some LED ones which have a built in resistor but are around £20.
from what i have gathered from other threads PIAA Platinum sidelights are best for most cars not tripping the warning lamp. Not sure of best place to buy from maybe someone will post a linky ;)

PIIAA don't carry an H6W version bulb.
I've been researching the H6W white sidelight problem for a while and hope to have a definitive answer tomorrow. I'll post when I know.
There is an H6W L.E.D. fitting available with a reverse lens especially made for sidelights but it does make the "bulb warning" indicator show.

Must admit until today I didn't realise there was a H6W bulb but on further inspection all I can tell is they give off a blueish tint http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/product.php?productid=16460 Not something that I personally would want on my car.The LED's look interesting but as you say very expensive for what you get.I suppose its possible to just use the cheap LED's and remove the bulb from out of the cluster so it doesn't keep coming on?

I just put the phillips blue vision W5W wedge and the main H1 bulbs into the W202 they make such a difference, there is not that much blue in all honesty and look near white, especially compared to the normal bulbs. I would recommend.

Any chance that you could post a pic of the finished article?

Sorry to jump in, but heres a picture of my phillips blue vision W5W + Philips H7 'Super brilliance' bulbs.
The important thing to remember that although they will vastly better & whiter! than standard bulbs, they will never look like Xenon's.

Thanks for the pic KHz they look excellent! Much better than I'd imagined.
Against the xenon dip/main they'll look different but surely better than the standard issue yellowish lamps.

They are still yellowish, but for a freebie you cant complain. (free with the Philips Slivervision blinker lights)

Has anyone fitted HID to a CLK?, I think the battery being in the boot could be a problem?

Here's an old picture of my car (day after I got it) showing the difference, as I stated above they are whiter, but no match for some of the expensive bulbs:

That pic puts a different light on things :) but ok for a freebie as you say.
The fact that my car uses the H6W bulb is pain because that rules out the PIAA "Platinum White" as they are only available in W5W, I will continue trying to hack something together.

I managed (I think!) to cancel the order for the W5W bulbs -- they arrived anyway.
then ordered these before the post about the bulb failure warning light:
http://www.aceparts.com/all-led-bulbs/led-side-light-bulbs/h6w-5-led-sidelight-bulbs.htm
tried them tonight, they work BUT, they cause a malfunction, which on the facelift CLK is not a separate warning light but a warning on one of the menus, so can't be switched off -- not that I would want to switch that warning off, as it's a great safety feature knowing when a bulb has blown
it is annoying that you can't test the bulb warning circuit unless the engine is running.
back to OEM bulbs .. no choice, and no doubt a whole lot cheaper!

I had these on my CLK .. I got them about 3 years ago when I first got my CLK. Not worth the money because they look yellow like normal bulbs ..

I am going slightly mad ..
I realised I have the old OEM bulbs so fitted one to stop the warning and to see how it compared with the Philips ..
there is marked difference, the OEM is markedly more yellow, the light less intense, and makes the glass look more cloudy ...
so I think I am going to order the phillips ones again

I fitted some T4W Halfords "Blue" tinge ones today and they are utter crap:devil:
Does anyone know how to get the led ones to work without sending on the warning lamp?

You'll require a resistor to avoid the warning.
I take it they were the terrible purple ones that are meant to be white?
