I do this by selecting an unused TV chan or select AUX with nothing plugged in

I was hoping there was a way using the steering wheel buttons, if not Linguatronic

I know that you can tell your lingure lady more things than I can, but I dont think that you can tell this.

I find it annoying sometimes when concentrating on a route when you cannot shut the source up. As you do not have a TV, cannot you select it from the steering wheel

It seems ridiculous that one can tell her to un-mute the radio but not to mute it !

I can flip through the devices fitted from my right hand display in the cluster, though yours may not be the same, each time I push it changes from say CD-FM-Navi and so on.. you have a TV input go to the menu and select AUX1 or 2 and that will stay in the TV menu and give you silence

I will ask her as nicely as I can the next time:D

Mmm, not sure that will work with my car..

What I want ideally is to be able to mute the radio and return to the Map screen for example.

Seems daft if you have to reach across to the COMAND and hit the Mute button

What I do is hit TV then back to NAV and that works

Liguatronic is a womans voice therefore there are NO shut up commands.
Sorry Pammy :o

I don't have this, but surely there should be an 'angry silence' option?

Try pressing one of the soft keys then I think select radio and then select radio off.

"radio off" :D

DOH!! Why didn't I think of that....

Oh! yes I did :D

And No, it doesn't work :(

I'll give it a go on the way home tonight but it doesn't sound hopeful. I think the softkeys only relate to the function displaying and I don't recall a "Radio-Off" button but I'll double check :)

I still think that leaving the TV set to Aux is the best way, then you only have to hit the TV button and then the Nav again as you can get the TV up in Linguretronic

I don't think I can Malcolm.

I have a "Video" button on the COMAND but there are no Linguatronic commands for that function (well, I haven't discovered any). I have the Linguatronic handbook and nothing in there either. Mind you it only lists about 25% of the available commands!

And No, it doesn't work :(

How about "Radio"? If you say it when the radio is off, or when another system isd active, it switches to the radio. Similar to pressing the radio button.

However, pressing the radio button again does turn the radio off (at least on my COMAND). I haven't tried this with my linguatronic, but would it not work similarly? Worth trying out this weekend I think .

I don't recall a "Radio-Off" button

In terms of buttons: on my COMAND, if you press one of the system buttons (CD, RADIO, NAV, TV, etc), it will bring up that system. However, if you then press the same button again, it will turn that system off altogether.

I may have had my menus mixed up but I have the command Manual here and I think it is:
Press any soft key to get options
Press Sound
Then bottom right is radio off.

press radio hard key to switch sound back on.

Hope this helps, I'll re-try it again on my way home and correct myself later if I'm wrong.

OK, just got home and have solved the issue.
1. press audio
2. press audio again and your options are cd, cd changer, radio and OFF.
3. press off.

to turn back on either press radio or if in NAV press audi and then radio [or whatever you want to hear].

this option allows traffic and nav to be heard but no music/radio.

I'll give those suggestions a go in the morning. It's absolutely chucking it down here right now :(

While the above suggestions will prove interesting (if they work) it's not quite what I was after, pressing "Mute" would be mute easier :)

My hopes were there would be a way to mute the radio using the steering wheel buttons or using Linguatronic, so not having to reach over to the COMAND.

Believe it or not it is quite difficult to hit the right button when traveling on typical UK roads. My suspension is quite firm :o :D

Right, have now tried it when I went for a little drive this morning and it doesn't work . Saying radio again is simply ignored and "mute on" or "radio off" also don't work...

You could always tell the radio to go to a frequency with no reception.

Yes that works, I do that on the TV as well

Wouldn't that results in a lot of static noise?

I have voice control retrofit on my "5 year plan", now started reconsidering if they have missed such a basic command as mute while having every odd one in. Looked at the 2007 manual for W211, nothing about "mute".

Looked at the W221 manual, it did list navigation mute and such but no "radio mute". But luckily it had "Radio off" included, no need to change my plan (keep on saving money).

I must say that even with the "off" command missing, I would for no money give up linguatronic in my s-class, it's a brilliant system. As with every human development, it isn't perfect, but despite small shortcomings, overall it is well worth its money to me. :)

In that case I would have preferred a male voice ;).

She does strike me as less quarrelsome as some of my colleagues' better halves though  :D.

I guess they have learned at MB, I've understood that W203 would not have the mute button at the steering wheel while new models have that (as well as the "return" button).

Not sure which one would I use if both options were available, probably voice control anyway. I usually have to have a look at the steering wheel buttons anyway before using, don't remember which one is which (probably not as much of a problem for others).
