Had one fitted to my S320 petrol last April cost £550 with twin electrics, would be cheaper in you only want single electrics. It is a detachable and when the swan kneck is removed, all that is visible is a round, approx 1.5 inches rubber bung. It is the same one as advertised on the ebay link

I thought it would not include the wiring harness as they have those on sale separately but at the top they actually say "abnehmbare AHK mit 7-poligem
universal Elektrosatz", so the harness must be included.

is it vehicle specific wiring or the old fashioned tap into the rear lights etc, or do mercs have a towing loom already there just need to plug into it?

I hope Geoff2 could help you from his experience. From the photos it looks like it is a generic harness (that is mentioned too), the harnesses for different cars look like having the same connectors (only looked at a couple). Could it be that it has an appropriate relay unit (to avoid burnt bulb warnings) but the drive would come by tapping wires?

Thanks Diesel, i think the same as you, multi meter time and a lot of head scratching and dare i say it scotchlocks!! hate using them but what else is there apart from cutting and soldering? heyho the fun starts here lol

Of course there would be the MB OEM option. But the wiring harness for the detachable ball head would cost some £355, the hitch mechanism £525 (parts A2203100095, A2205400606, is the reinforcement in addition to those A2206102825, £250). A parts kit would probably exist at lower price but the ebay offering remains pretty attractive.
