Hi,
If you can find the number printed/moulded onto/into the cradle (probably in the format B6 787 xxx) you should be able to tie it up with one in here

I got hold of a phone..nokia 7210i to try out. However...It plugs in and fits in cradle no probs at all. Then it all goes wrong and says...NO PHONE! on the Audio 20 head unit. My question is ... Is it shafted? Ant troubleshooting help would be superb.

You say this is a MY2004 car, does it have the UHI car kit, meaning the phone cradle detaches from the UHI connector? I assume this as you say you tried a Nokia 7210i (the kit before UHI did not accept this phone).
Can you look at the cradle part number, it may not be built for 7210 even if it fits.
When you put the phone to the cradle, does the phone start to charge the battery? Does it indicate car kit mode with an icon on the display?
If the adapter is for a 7210, I'd suggest checking and cleaning the connector pins both at the UHI connector and the phone connector.

Hi
Does the cradle have a curly cord, or is it fixed in place. If its curly, the system is a fixed Nokia 6310i system. You can add a device called a ViseeO that gives you bluetooth for using with a new phone. They are at www.comandonline.co.uk (along with other bluetooth solutions etc) and there's a voucher code for a discount on ViseeO in a recent thread here, valid till the end of the month.
If its fixed in place, you have UHI, which means the cradle can be slid off backwards when you press the little button near the top on the surface. The next question then is, is it a mid 04 facelift car, or before. If you look at the stereo, if there is metal/wood visible the whole way round, then it is before, if the unit occupies full width of the centre console it is facelift.
If it is facelift, you can use either of the mercedes bluetooth HFP or SAP cradles - depending on what phone you have.
If it is pre-facelift, you have to use the SAP cradle, or a 6310i cradle + ViseeO.
Hope that explains
