Tyre Pressures

Can anyone tell me what pressures I should be running, I changed from the standard 16" Sport alloys 205/55/16 on my Benz to 18" rims 225/40/18 and 245/40/18. The standard pressures are 30 front and 33 rear, do I use the same in the 18's as someone else has told me to raise them to 32 and 35...is this right??

I don't know, but when my AMG wheels were delivered the tyres had been preinflated to the pressures indicated in the handbook!  I was really impressed that the wheel shop bothered to do that.

Greg, I have 18" wheels with 35 and 40 profiles and the knowledge I have gained suggests increasing the pressure to 35+. I have mine at 37 all round. When you put on new wheels and tyres I think you can throw the handbook recomendations out of the window. You need to go with experience from now on IMHO.

we run 235/40/18's all around on one of the work cars at 36PSI, always been fine.

Just for info, I had a colleague who wondered why he kept bending his rims over pot holes etc. He complained the tyre pressure was correct. When I quizzed him he had new 18&quot; high rim wheels but kept to the pressure recomended for his 16&quot; stock wheels. He has been fine since the discussion and I learn't from that too.

My view is simple. If you lower the aspect ratio you may need to increase pressure to safeguard the wheels although you may compromise ride quality slightly in the process.
