just spoke to :http://www.alloywheelrefurb.co.uk/

they say the AMG wheel is diamond cut and alot of people will take on the job and polish the rim and then laquer - but the laquer wont stay on, they are waiting to get a diamond cut and polishing machine soon but that will be a month or so. they said costs will be between 45-55 squids.

I need my rims diamond polished!!!!

That has got to be real sickener http://members.roadfly.com/ukc32/sick.gif for a man who looks after his car like you do. Sorry to hear.

Is Hemel Hempstead too far?

Another refurb co - with Diamond cutting (http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/index.htm)

Thanks for that Guy, Had a long chat with the guy cost is gonna be 45 PLUS vat. which includes remove tyre, refurbish/poilish alloy, refit tyre and balance. (52.83 inc vat per 17' alloy)

minimum order is 40 squid, I'll give them they alloy to see how it goes - turn around time is a fortnight :S which means it wont be ready for the UK GTG

anyone tried these people before?

Guy

Sorry to hear that Koolvin.

No offense intended, but you are the most cautious person I know with your car, so you must be traumatised!

Are you going to post pics of the damaged wheel???

I'd like to see before and after refurb pics.

The cost of the repair is very reasonable. I would like to see the result in case any of mine ever need doing.

Have you 5 of the 17&quot; AMG's or just 4?

What wheel are you going to run on the car whilst it is away - one of your 15&quot; AMG's?

Don't forget to replace the spare as well - sods law says you will get a puncture.

Koolvin

@Graham: I am distraught!!!!! I have just 4 AMG's

My Dad managed to Curb my other front wheel while I was Visiting friends at the Baloon festival in Bristol this weekend..

now both front wheels are heavily damaged... I can't believe it in the 3 years I had the 15&quot; AMG's they never even got one scratch - but these 17's have had a hard time.....

My 15&quot; AMG's kind of sold to a MBClub community member but he has to come pick them up first.

My car is looking really tatty now - remember my alloys were second hand? one of the rear was curbed already and the fronts were only slightly damaged...

anyway I have booked in my 17's for repair - I have never tried wheel refurbishing before and I am quite sceptical on how they are going to cope with a diamond lip(s)

I have pictures of my wheels so I can compare them once they are finished... It will take a week for them to do as they are quite busy at the moment and I just hope they finish it in time for the BBQ.

edit: here is one pic of the many I have - it highlights the worst of the damage!!

Don't worry K,

The same happened to me on my 19' AMG rear rim. I had it polished out whilst I was away on holiday &amp; on me return all my alloys were like new again (have only done 1,500 miles).

Then my wife went to Tesco!!!

N/S front rim &amp; tyre sidewall &amp; the same rear rim all the way round. I haven't even paid the bill yet. <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Will get the Dealer to fix them again next time the car's in.

They charged £60 last time but as I said the job was A1.

I,ve seen work done by this company, all looks excellent <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> .

Wheel refurbishers (http://www.lepsons.com)

They had some real &quot;dream&quot; wheels just finished, and you can have any paint effect if desired.

They also do a same day turn around.

Lepsons I believe are around £150 for 4.

But it would cost more if you had same day service.

Had my car at the Dealership today &amp; the valeter took the car to wash it &amp; KERBED MY OFF SIDE ALLOYS!!!!!!!

I now have a full set of kerbed alloys &amp; it's not even my fault.
<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'>

Dealer has offered to have all four repaired FOC.

GUTTED or what <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Did they tell you they had done it or did they wait to see if you noticed!

I suppose if you left the dealer then noticed it you would be had pressed to prove you had not just done it yourself <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

How long will they need the car for?

Mark
I got them done from the guy that guy recomended... he done a good job but the **** didn't listen to what I said - he did diamond cut the lip but then he laquered it -

My alloys had the laquer taken off at the lip and were 'mirrror' polished which meant I had to polish the lip every week - but it looked fab!!!!

see pic below (rear unlaquered lip)

http://193.63.6.63/koolvin/benz/alloypol/2.jpg

anyway - when I questioned him he said thats how they came from the factory and I was like - I wanted them how they were not how they came from factory.... damm him!!! anyway I will take them else where to get the lips mirror polished now that they alloys are refurbished already.

I might take them here : http://www.nbizz.com/alloywheelrefurbishers.co.uk/

Mark : the guy I got them from was good cause he collected and delivered (even though i waited 2 weeks) and was reasonably cheap! maybee we should go together and get a discount?

Picked my rims up today <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Now need to get them sorted, they were exactly as described in the ad. but 3 out of 4 were nothing like as bad as I thought they would be.
If the one bad wheel was as good as the other 3 they would be going on the car this weekend !

I was looking at the place Paul found in Gillingham - seems quite reasonable - as does the other one you found in MK

V12 - I was told by the previous owner i will need longer wheelbolts as the std ones are too short *- any ideas ?

I have not used them myself, but the work I saw did look very good indeed.

Also I have seen some feed back on them by a classic car type magazine which also recommended them.

If you did go for the same day turn around you could jump on the train to Rochester (2 stops) for the day whilst they are being done. &nbsp;Lepson's is at the side of the station in Gillingham, hence the address &quot;Railway Street&quot;.

Of course if I'm around I'm happy to chauffer you about, but, I wont put on the peaked cap <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

I just phoned them and they are only open 9-12 on saturdays, the turnaround time for my wheels is 3-4 days, so I'm going to drop them off on Sat and pick them up in the week or the following Sat.
She said there wasnt too much chance of getting yours done on the same day - but there was a possibility, you would have to get there early and take pot luck.

Let me know what you want to do

If you can wait a couple of days I can pick yours up with mine, and we could meet up on the north circ somewhere.

I have my Astra estate so I will get 6 wheels with tyres in it. As I'm using company diesel and a company DART tag I dont care how many times I have to go <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Mark300SL
08-09-2002, 01:11 PM
I dropped them off yesterday morning on my way to Hampshire to help a mate with a blown headgasket!

I chatted with him for about 1/2 hout about the finish I wanted. I had the option of replicating the original finish - but this comes completely without guarantee, as the first stone chip in the laquer would start the degredation process again, In the end I opted for a paint finish which is a lot more durable, and guaranteed for a year too.

I cant help thinking I should have stayed with the Turned &amp; Polished finish and just looked after them, but this way they are much lower maintenance!

£140+ VAT for 4 seems quite reasonable - but I dont want to be paying that every 6 months.

Mark
