HELP ANYONE PLEASE, I'm going abroad soon and have a problem with the wipers. If I press the stalk for wash/wipe it never fails,...... however if I set it on rain sensitive, speed 1 or speed 2 sometimes it works but mostly not. Do these models suffer from internal wiper switch/stalk failure or is there another common fault? THANKING EVERYONE IN ADVANCE, THIS IS VERY URGENT. best regards ray ellis:

It might be worth calling a dealer and ask if there is a reset procedure of some kind like disconnecting the battery.

I just asked about a similar issue on another forum. I have not read fault codes but if it is the stalk, I assume the system would not be able to detect any malfunction?
I did find a document talking about corrosion on the plug coupling for wiper motor (WIS AF82.30-P-6007A) but if it works elsewhere, like when washing the screen, I doubt it could be a connector issue?
Would be glad to join reading comments from others.

It's a 2003 car - why not just take it to your dealer?

What do you mean? How long warranty do you have in the UK? My car has been out of warranty for years, not sure about ray ellis.
If I have to pay, I'll think twice before allowing my MB workshop to look at the car. It usually comes back with more issues than it had when it went for service.
Perhaps not always, but it would be a lot less expensive to avoid lengthy dealer workshop diagnosis if an issue is well known by real experts (that is this forum).

Fair point - didn't want to sound as if I had no confidence in this forum :).
I got my warranty extended to 6 years - had to pay a fee, but was better in terms of coverage and cheaper than what I could get on the free market. Underwritten by openplan or something, but with far better cover (everything and uncapped, and I mean everything including the airmatic suspension, the cats, the autobox etc) than you could buy from them as an individual.
