Hi,
just bought a 3 year old E 320 CDi from Direct Mercedes.
It has the car kit in the arm rest but no phone. Does anyone know where to get a phone that will work here and whether it can be twinned with my own mobile phone (an O2 XDA orbit).
thanks

Does it have UHI? Difficult to be sure from this "three years old" info.
If the cradle in the arm rest can be detached from its connector, then you would have plenty of options. I'm not familiar with an XDA orbit but it isn't one with an MB cradle option, Bluetooth (HF) would be your way to go then.
If it is a pre-UHI setup, you can search for ViseeO to gain BT support for the car.

Isn't this HTC product also supporting BT SAP, one of the few in addition to Nokias (so far)? Have you tried it on a BT SAP setup?
(off topic, sorry)

thanksFor the 2004 E-class the choice was very restricted to the Nokia range:
5110, 5130, 6110, 6130, 6150. 6210 with software version 5.02 and above. Nokia 6310 with software version 4.24 and above and the Nokia 6310i with software 4.07 and above can also be used.
We have the 6310i that lives in the car; it is old technology, but who cares, the COMAND loves it and all the vehicle features work.
I'm sure there are newer cradles that might replace this technology, and just make sure the steering wheel can still operate all the features, plus of course COMAND if you have it.
Regards
John

I did a search oand discovered that quite a few people had problems with the Tytn and the Mercedes Tytn. Based on that I thought that I might as well save £100! It syncs the contacts perfectly and I have a charing mount on a no holes bracket so power use is not an issue.

Hi John,
Yes on your advice I found my old 6310i in a draw (shows it pays not to throw these old things out) and as you say it sits in the cradle and works fine. Now I have to persuade O2 to start twinning SIM cards so I can charge all my calls to my main company mobile bill.
but thanks

Alternatively you can buy a Viseeo cradle for the car which will allow full bluetooth ;)

Had the same problem with O2 now changed to Orange who will do twin sims for £30 setup and £3.00 Per mth. Car phone is master and will divert when that closes down, about 45 secs after locking car.
Works well

I would still consider Alfie's suggestion. There are a few drawbacks from using two different phones. Examples could be the lack of SMS forwarding, or would all send messages to "the other phone", not the one in the car (operators can do it differently).
Another one would be keeping phone book up-to-date on both phones.
How about PIN code, I assume you would have to enter PIN code for the phone in the car every time you start the car. If you disable the PIN code, someone may make a big phone bill if the phone gets stolen from the car.
But everyone has his/her own preferences, just trying to bring up a few issues to be considered.
