View Full Version : Help Installing Command in W209 '05
Hi Guys,
I have been looking through the post but can't find anything relating to my problem, I hope some one can help.
I have a W209 '05 facelift model. I have just brought off ebay a model 6099 (widescreen Sat Nav) to replace my faulty Audio 20. Naively thinking this would just be a plug in job. I have connected it up using the standard wiring. On powering it on the Mercedes Benz logo appears then after about 30 seconds goes off. On the speedo display it says ‘Audio please wait’ then after a while goes to ‘Audio’ and 4 ---- as if waiting for a code. The on-light is not lit and also when powered on none of the other buttons light up.
Have I brought the incorrect Command or do I have to get MB to enable this?
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
Tal

The comand is turning itself off because its looking for something on the MOST bus that isnt there. The unit came out of a car which had different components on its MOST bus. My guess here is you dont have any fibre in your car (that is no phone pre-wire, CD changer etc)
You need to get it coded properly by your local dealer or someone with a STAR system;)
Alternatively you can simply put a loop back fibre connector on the back which will fool it for now.
Thanks, I've booked it into the dealer today £94 per hour, said it will take 1 hour, theres a shock.

It takes a lot less than that. I reckon on about 15 minutes including the 7 minute flash update! Unless you are having other things enabled............
Hi Alfie,
Help.
They have just billed me £94+VAT and it still doesn't work. What they are saying is that this unit requires an external Audio and Navigation unit.
The part code is A 209 820 74 89. Is this correct?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi There,
Why dont you try what Alfie said first.
Part number you need is A211 540 31 32 - just take apart the connector it comes on, create a loop and clip it into the outer fibre chamber on the multiplug.

Usual garbage spoken by Dealers. The Nav and Audiogateway are built into the Comand on the A,B,C, CLK etc models. It simply needs coding and also the speedo display requires the nav menu activated.

They are wrong.
As already said by another, the AGW and NAV unit are integral to the comand. You do not need any other hardware.
The dealer obviously does not know what they are doing.
They need to code the comand so that it properly reflects whats on the bus. In your case nothing by the sound of it. The easier solution is to do as Alex says and use the loop back. Then all the dealer needs to do is to enable Navigation present for the cluster to show the directions etc.

I think for those that live near an expert in this field then they would be crazy to go to a main dealer? The monetary cost to me is secondary to the competence of the technician and in fairness to main dealers, I doubt they do this type of work on any type of regular basis, but for folks like Alfie, it is part of his livelihood. Practice makes perfect.
Is this a part for the E-class? A211 540 31 32
Regards
John
Thanks guys,
Agree John wish i had a expert here in the midlands.
Not impressed with the dealer, he showed me a manual with all comand’s in but couldn’t find my part number. The best he could find was a picture of an S class so he said that that was it. I don’t know if its right to name and shame but they are the local dealer in Walsall.
I'll order the part from another dealer.
Again thanks guys, i'll keep you informed.
Cheers

I think he is talking about ordering the fibre connector.
Alex.
Guys,
Thanks for all your help. Alfie you know your stuff. Brought the fibre link cable(£5) stripped it out of the casing and it snapped into the socket on the back of the comand. took 5 min.
Now the conversation with the dealer about coding should be interesting!!
Thanks Again.
