View Full Version : Help - no sound!
Hi
I got in my car this morning as normal and hit the on button on my Audio 20 (car is 2002 W211) and all the lights came on but no sound  . On the way to work I tried:
1..Restarting the car
2..Volume button twisted a few times in either direction
3..Mute on/off
4..Flipping between CD/Radio & changing CD (6 CD changer fitted)
According to the display at least everything seems to be fine, seconds ticking away on CD play etc. Not a flicker of sound though, no crackles buzzes or otherwise.
Only thing I did notice was that where I'd had the Bass & Treble adjusted they were back to their default settings of '0'. All other settings seem to be as I'd left them.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

It will probably be the output stage gone down, or maybe the loudspeaker plug out
Excuse my ignorance but where is the output stage and what do you mean by 'gone down', do you mean dead?
I assume the loudspeak plug you speak of is at the back of the dash unit.

The output stage is a little IC (chip) built into the head unit, an easy repair form a ICE service shop.
Yes the loudspeaker plug is seperate and plugs in the rear
On my way home from work tonight the stereo simply had 6 dashes on the display and wouldn't respond to any button presses at all. Also the whole system's lights were going off and then back on again intermittently (as though power to the whole unit was cutting out), and the CD changer dash cover won't open at all either way.
Is there anywhere I can get a wiring diagram?
Of course any more suggestions are welcome.

No diagrams as far as I know. If the output chip has gone down, it may upset the front end, it could be asking for a code

Going deaf could well be a cheaper alternative....:p
Thanks for the info television, I thought about the code possibility but it's not responding to any buttons being pressed. I'll do some more digging and post my results if I manage to get some.
I do have a tame autoelectrician, trouble is his speciality is BMW!
