Hello all! Advice on my W124 E220 Coupe
Im a new member here just worked out how to post a msg so bare with me if im in the wrong section here!
Ive recently purchased a E220 Coupe 1994/5, been working on it for about 6months now restoring it to its original beauty, Its on the road and looking great however I have a few issues with the electrics it seems.
Firstly the wipers dont work and then the windows only work when the door is open, the display above the rear view mirror is not working and im having a nightmare getting the sunroof back in and tilting, I had taken it out when painting the car to remove the rust from around the sunroof seals.
I would really appreciate any input !
Many thanks
Chaz
Oh and how do I put pics of the car up on here?

The wiper ( not wipers)wont work because of the following---1. the mechanism has probably seized/broken---try taking it apart to lubricate it---several members have had great success doing this----several posts on how to---this is better than buying a new one cos they are expensive. 2. the motor has burned out (due to the above) replacement only answer. 3. voltage supply has failed fuses---relay---steering column switch----test for 12v and replace components as necessary.
Windows will normally only work with (a) ignition on or (b) ignition off and doors open why dont ask cos I dont know ;)
The display above the mirror has a fused supply I think.
there is also a big "multifunction" convenience relay in the rear section of the fusebox beside the brake servo which controls a lot of these things so worth checking that also.
Thank you all for your reply's! I have today solved the problem, number 2 fuse had some corrosion around the contacts and the block conecter for the wiper motor was sumhow connected the wrong way around :s
not sure what else I did, had a poke around with a tester and now its all working!
Do the E220's have an adaptive gearbox, and can they be reset?

The electronic 722.6 boxes did not start until after your car was made, so you do not have that, your box will be a 722.4 or 5, nothing wrong with your box though, they are good

So kids can't kill themselves by strangulation when left in car.
- Like the poor kid who died a couple of days ago when one child wound the window up on the others' neck. - mother seems to have left keys in car and kids playing in it ..

Just thought this one worth a bump, as I experienced the same symptons today. Windows and sunroof only working with doors open, wipers inoperative and high beam flasher dead.
Did a quick search and found this thread, changed fuse 2 (hadn't blown) and all is well again.:bannana::bannana::bannana:
I've noticed all the fuses are a bit furry and crusty so may well change all of them.
Great forum!
