TPM reboot after display fault...

Hi,

I thought this might be of interest to people who have the Tyre Pressure Module on their MBs. I have an S500 now 7 years old and the TPM sensors were replaced due to their batteries having run out. Thereafter the dealer was unable to get the system working and I constantly had a "Display Fault, visit workshop" reading on the display with 5 double lines where there would normally be 4 indicating the pressure of each tyre.

The dealer said I might need a new control unit (around 200 plus fitting) although quite why I am not sure since it was reading pressures before.

In any event the car then stood for a number of weeks and when I tried to start it the battery was completely flat. I had MB come and jump start it for me and BINGO the TPM was fully functional again. It was as if it needed a hard reboot.

This may avoid someone buying a control unit unnecessarily for the sake of a simple fix.

I can now confirm that this works, and might be something to try for other electronic failures. I recently had the same thing happen to my SL after an extended period of non use. After removal of both batteries, a 10 second wait, and reconnection the TPM module started communicating on the CAN Bus again.

I am not sure whether this is applicable to more of the control units, but for the sake of 10mins would likely be worth trying.
