I've fitted a new JVC headunit to my w211 (pre facelift 2006) to replace the standard Audio 20 (single CD so no separate Audio Gateway) and am stuck trying to get the sound to distribute evenly throughout the speakers.

When the fader is set in the centre (so sound should be split evenly front and back), the sound only comes through the central front speaker. Moving the fader forwards brings in some of the other front speakers and moving backward brings in some of the back. I can't get front and back working together, nor can I get the very rearmost speaker to work at all

I've checked the wiring and it all maps correctly ie FR+ to FR+ FR- to FR- etc for all 4 speakers

Any Suggestions?

I'm tempted to try wiring both front and rear into the same output

Something must be wired wrong here, does the L-R balance work, if all the speakers are the original they will all be 1-2 Ω if you have a multi meter check the resistance of all 4 speaker wires they must be the same

What wiring harness did you use for the stereo? Most if not all new stereos (and car wiring) are ISO standard. I fitted my Pioneer unit in my CLK by literally plugging it in, no messing with wires at all. I would take a trip down to your nearest ICE dealer and get it checked. It won't cost much, and it's better than damaging your stereo and/or car's wiring. :)

A good idea, if you parallel the speakers you can burn out the amp

I used a PC2-75-4 harness which coverts ISO to the Quadlock std. L/R balance work fine

If you wire front and rear into the same output make sure you do it in series, not parallel - or your new radio won't work for long.

Personally mate I'd take it to a car radio installer.
