Mercedes W140 cental locking pump Fix

All,

I had a guy at work today and he was have problems with his cental locking pump for his W140 S600 coupe V12.

A new one for his car costs around £1000 inc VAT

He had it repaired and only lasted a week, cost him £150.
Got his money back now.

Right I have managed to fix it for him and saved him loads of money.
All working fine now. Cental locking, Orthopedic seats, bootlid lip etc.

So if anyone else has a problem, I will be happy to assist. :bannana:

The Central lockign pump on my Mercedes has stopped working. I have a Mercedes S320 1998. The part no. is 1408003248. Can you repair it?

Cozy... how long is the ortho pump supposed to run for... i have checked my system for leaks but after the initial pump stops (which runs for a minute or two) the seats deflate within a few minutes...

Jay, this will not be the pump.

There are several parts in the system, there are one way valves on all of the seat function plus there is the reservoir tank for the seats as well. these pumps can only run for 18 sec as they a vacuum switch and an electronic switch that cuts in should you have a leak in the system.

If you are going to have a go your self I can guide you through it having taken all of my seats apart I know how they work

yes i checked the tank in the boot, that was the initial problem, someone had disconnected it at some point... have reconnected and blew into the pipe, held my thumb over it for a few minutes.. the pressure was holding there.. I have also changed all the pipes in the seats...

cant see where else there could be a leak?

where are the one way valves as apart from the one on the pump and the controllers themselves i dont see them? also i get a hissing fromt he controllers while the pump is running... logically this seems normal as there would be excess pressure to release when the pump is running...

The control valves are built into the backs of the seats on mine. they have memories and when you start the car the blow up to the last used settings.

Do you have one of the little air brush compressors

yes the ortho seats are much more complicated on later models, this is basically a control valve, some pipes, a tank and the pump... yet its got me... however this weekend i will be testing every single vac line for a leak.

You cant do it without a small compressor as you will burn the car pump out if you keep trying to run it.

This is an air brush compressor, you can borrow it if you wish and pay the postage. I made the one way valve from a spray cleaner bottle

thanks for the offer but i want to try and crack it this weekend as its bugging me... i think i will just blow hard and use my tongue as the one way valve, i only want to test for leaks...

OK, most leaks stem from the pipes that go up into the seat where the pipes come through the floor. they get creased as the seat moves.

the car is full size, it is that the compressor is on the large side :rolleyes:

i have big problem with air pump, pack up due to water from heater matrix? burnt terminals connecting to pump as well,can you help?

Hello Bobski I do not see how water in heater box will burn out Vacuum pump motor.

Hi Mercedes Cozy...thanks for the post. I have a 1999 s500, my central locking pump does not appear to be working at all (MB # 1408003248 ). You can hear the the actuators clicking when you go to lock, but the pump is dead. The locks don't work, the lumbar does not work, the trunk latch and handle do not work. The close assist seems to be working on 3 doors, but one is stuck, I know that's another pump, but do you think they are related? The central locking pump appears to be in perfect condition, the hoses and connections inside and out are also appears to be in perfect shape. The only thing I did notice is that there is black dust inside the pump housing around the motor....is there something else I can do to fix the system, do you think you can repair it?

I have a 1998 e300 deisel the battery is bran new,after checking fuse and connections everything works ok,for a week sometimes a month,and then get up in morning go to start car all is dead battery flat,if I turn off central locking system completely,no drain at all car runs perfect,what posible things could cause drain of battery,only when central locking is connected.thanks geoff

Hello Bobski I do not see how water in heater box will burn out Vacuum pump motor.


Since the PSE pump also supplies vacuum for the A/C to operate
the flaps, when engine is off, water can get back into the pump, thru the
plenum in the passenger footwell.
