Hi All,

I've noticed some of the electrical contacts on my 202 are looking a bit scummy!! The contacts seem to be coated in a white flakey substance. Is it corrosion? (I've noticed this on the headlamp washer pump and motor connectors, as I'm in the process of trying to fix them)

What should I spray on them to clean them? Obviously I've looked at electrical cleaner spray but reading the label, it doesn't mention removal of this corrosion type stuff I seem to have.

Is this what I should buy or is there a better product out there?

Remove with mild physical abrasion. those basic green plastic pan scourers ( the ones without any detergent) from supermarkets work quite well and dont leave a conducting residue. WD40 is a good general water dispersant/lubricant.

Maplins and RS sell Servisol products, you need a switch cleaner / lubricant, do not try and clean the corrosion off with sand paper or wire wool by Servisol of the non drying type. Just spray it on and leave it

Are they effectively the same thing or is one more suitable than the other?

The Electrolube form RS is the best product, and they were the pioneers of these things. CPC has stopped selling these things as the Radio and TV trade has died, the difference is so small that you would not notice., buy what is the most convenient

OK thanks.
One final thing, is the product that Halfords sell also the same thing? In terms of convenience that would be easiest as I can pick some up tonight. The others have to be mail ordered plus P+P etc.

I looked at the Halfords on on Sat. Didn't sound like what I needed but from what you guys have posted, will that be the same as the Servisol stuff?

Go for the stuff from Maplins or RS its usually next day delivery both ORGANISATIONS BUILT THEIR REP ON MAIL ORDER --pretty efficient. My approach of abrasion and WD 40 is more for gross corrosion of older style connectors
