Hi all

After a bit of info regarding electrical problems on my c250td estate. All of a sudden today while driving down the road the following electrical systems stopped works

1. indicator lights
2. windscreen wipers, front & rear
3. side mirror adjustment
4. horn
5. heated rear window
6. electric windows

what is still working is

1. head / side lights and dipper adjustment
2. heater
3. hazard lights (bizarrely enough seeing the indicators off the stick are not)

I am assuming that the none working systems must have a common electrical fuse or relay etc, but have n't a clue what as the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual are not to good. I have checked the engine bay fuse box and found no obvious blown fuses

So my question is, "Can anyone point mw in the right direction to trace the fault"

cheers

GMc

If you remove the fuse box lid [ in the engine bay] first, then remove the fuse box surround which also covers the relays located in the box behind. the surround/cover is held on with 2/3 screws should be obvious. you can then access the relays to see if your problem lies there. Its probably either the relays or the steering column multifunction stalk or its associated wiring if the rest of the fuses check out.

thanks for that, I will have a look tonight, how obvious is a faulty relay? Can these be checked with a volt meter etc?

I suspect a fuse has blown. On MB cars often there is a master fuse for several circuits then other fuses for each circuit.
there should be a fuse data card tucked into the fusebox which should highlight the one that covers these circuits.

Otherwise it sounds like a power lead has lost connection either in the steering column or dash area.

I've been trying to get hold of a wiring diagram to help track down the fault, but not had much luck, does anyone no if there are any available on the net etc

Item 119 is the N10 multi relay that covers all of your faults

thanks for the info on the relay TV, I will have a look over the weekend, one point though, the relay you identified also covers the hazard warning lights, which are working ok (even though the indicators are not) so would this still happen if the relay was faulty???I

You good people may be on the way to helping me with a problem on my 1999 C250TD. All the following symptoms began simultaneously a few months ago and so I figured they are all related but I've been at a loss as to how to sort it.
When the indicators are switched on there is a delay of one second or so before they work and when they are cancelled they continue to flash for another second or two. This fault also occurs with the windscreen wiper. At the same time as these symptoms began I noticed that the electric windows and the rear screen heater became hit and miss as to whether they would operate.
Please tell me more about the N10 relay?

The N10 is a multi function relay ,,what does that mean ?

It is several devices in one box and these devices have no connection with one another, it is /was a cheaper way to build a car, and a much more expensive way of fixing one when it goes wrong.

The N10 contains the heated rear window output relay(not the timer) that goes to the glass.

The indicator flasher control, and the wiper control.

With faults on the wipers it 99% always the stalk
With indicators its 99% the stalk
With read demisters its 99% the rear window elements

All of the N10 is driven from the ignition switch and if you lose all 3, then it is 99% the switch (124,149,202,129, early 210 not DAS)

The pins on these things should be kept clean and lubricated with a non drying switch cleaner. do not pull it around too hard as you will force open the socket pin holders.

All the fuses should be rotated after being sprayed with cleaner

My goodness Television - you're on the ball. Sincere thanks for the info which gives me some sense of direction to go. Thanks too to Dec as those diagrams may be useful.
