Hi all

I've got a w211 eclass that I imported to Pakistan from UK. The analogue speedometer reads in mph but in Pakistan we use kph. I know you can set the digital display to kph even if the analogue unit is in mph.

However, I bought a secondhand instrument cluster from Germany, which is in kph and swapped the instrument clusters. Everything worked except the mileage of the car is now shown as "------", obviously as the cars mileage is now different from that of the instrument cluster.

I took the car the Mercedes and they tried to reset the instrument clusters mileage to that of the car using the STAR diagnostic tool, however it failed to set the mileage as it claimed the instrument cluster had more that 1000km on it.

I was wondering if there is a way to reset the mileage of the instrument cluster to 0 and hence then the mileage can be set to the correct mileage of the car.

All help appreciated.

Not sure about this but do know the cluster will bind to the engine and autobox ECU after xx many starts of the engine.

You might be able to reset the cluster Vin number and coding to make it re-bind to the other ECUs.

There is "mileage correction" software that seems to be able to access the dash where the Star cant.
Star only gives once chance upto 1000miles or Km depending on versioon.

Give this guy a call. I've heard he is pretty good...

www.milesback.co.uk (http://www.milesback.co.uk)

He can do a postal service on some clusters. Might cost a bit in postage though!!

The only way it can be done is by a milliage correction man. I know of such a man in Portsmouth but he only works on the south coast in the UK not in Pakistan!!!

Good luck an I am sure that some one in pakistan will be able to do it for you.

On a friend's E320CDI, the instrument cluster stopped working. He got a new one fitted at the dealers and they were able to set the mileage to the original figure. I would have thought that your dealer could zero the mileage and then set it to the correct figure. Like a lot of things, STAR is only as good as the person operating it.

Thats slightly different it allows for the mileage to be moved between clusters because its moved along with the coding to DAS then shot back down the line when the new one is installed.
