I have finally installed the cruise control and I'm very please to tell you guys that it is working perfectly. What a success and I had promised that I'll share this experience. Driving on the highway is much relex now.
My is a 2.0L, auto transmission. So whatever mentioned here could be different with other engines.
Where I live, cruise control are not in the 190e as it was not popular then. However, there are some fitted on the W124. As the W201 and W124 share similar equipment I had no choice but to use some parts that are from the W124.
These are the parts I've bought :
1. Actuator - from eBay
2. Amplifier with coding plug part # 014 545 4032 / coding plug 014 545 78 32 (1994) - from breaker
3. Switch (RH) - from breaker
4. Hall speed sensor - from breaker
5. Wire harness W124 auto transmission - from breaker
6. Actuator bracket plus studs and rubber spacers - new
7. Connecting rod with ball sockets both ends - new
8. Ball pivot (small) with nut - new
9. Actuator lever for W201 - new
Installation :
1. Actuator mounted on engine block. The stud holes are there, so you don't have to make any holes.
2. Fix the ball pivot into the hole on the level throttle.
3. Snap the connecting rod into the ball of the actuator lever and the ball pivot on the throttle lever.
4. Run wire harness from engine compartment into passenger compartment through grommet behind battery right up to the steering column.
5. Secured amplifier along the steering column mounting bracket.
6. Installed switch into the slot on the combination switch (signal, wiper). You need a longer securing screw as the original securing screwing screw is too short. You also need to cut a slot on the column cover for the switch lever to go through. The rubber cover for the lever should fit needly into the cut slot.
7. Remove the instrument cluster. Lift off the cover for the Hall speed sensor. This is next to the speedo connection. Drop in the Hall speed sensor into the slot and tighten it. Only one philip screw. Run a (+) wire to pin 1 (+) and (-) wire pin (-)
8. Connect up the plugs, to the amplifier, speed sensor, brake switch, actuator, and switch.
9. Finally, road test.
Before the above was carried out, information regarding wiring layout and parts required was obtained from http://braingear.com . Trouble shoot guide from http://gdl-online.com/trouble.html.
It is advisable to carry out a trouble shoot first as outline in gdl to ensure that the equipment is in order before road test.
