The sun is out - the iPod is blaring on the sound-dock and I'm realising how much I miss having the iPod in the car.

Since I got a 5g I can't use it in Edna as my FM transmittor only fits my 3g model. So I'm looking at options.

The FM transmittor/chargers just won't go in Edna beacuse of the location of the power socket and a Griffin is no good as it now fits on the docking socket so no way of powering the iPod as you use it. So I think I'm going to have to look at a Dension Ice Link. But I'm not sure just where it will fit in an R170. It's of little use stuck in the glove box coz I wouldn't be able to reach it. So any thoughts? Or am I just going to have to create a gazillion play lists:crazy:

Do you have an aux socket?

If yes. I have just purchased a tomtom go 510 , for my step daughter, which has ipod control, the cable to connect the tomtom to the ipod is about £15 from currys.

The good thing is that the tomtom has a pass through that allows you to connect it to the aux socket, this allow you remote control of the ipod through the cars speakers. Gives you full playlist, no video or pictures though.

Not sure yet if it charges the ipod whilst charging the tomtom.

If you have command try the dension gateway as that allows full control through the stereo and steering wheel controls

No COMAND, no steering wheel controls - R170. I would imagine there's an aux port - it's a Blaupunkt Woodstock52 DAB. But I already have a Tom Tom 500 so dont really want to go that route if I can avoid it - but if it gives a neater option then I would.

I was looking that one yesterday as well but I'm still struggling to know just where it would go in Edna.

Has anyone with an R170 ever fitted either the Dension or the HK unit? If so where and how?

SQ Plus will fit the current HK unit for £100. That works out at about £40 for fitting as you can get the unit for about £60. I know SQ Plus are good - but I want the right unit first and I'm not sure the HK is it.

I've asked them just how it would work in the SLK with using a TTG as well.
