1999 CLK 208 Facelift not showing digital speed

I am very new to this forum considering I only purchased the car on Friday (230k Avantgarde convertible). Anyway my friend has a 2000 CLK W208 convertible on a 230K Elegance and he is showing off that his display shows digital mph. Going through the menu on my steering wheel I certainly dont have it. We are both driving facelift models.

Any advice??

According to this online manual you cant do this on UK sourced cars. Will only display temperature? I think there are ways round this by reprogramming the software. see clk-in depth-operating system-page 4

I have a 2001 CLK and I can get speed displayed by using the "book" buttons on the steering wheel to display mileage and trip mileage, then scrolling through the display using the up and down arrows - from memory, I think the options are mileage/trip, service due indicator, oil level and then digital speed...hope that helps!

I realise that mine was imported from Europe when it was registered. Looking at the CLK operating WEB links, it suggests that this is for the later model.

Any more clues.
