View Full Version : 1998 E300TD Alternator
Hi
Any suggestions on an Alternator it is Bosch 0 123 510 080 with MB part no. 010 154 9402 and 115 in big print. The MB price is 775 Euro!!!!!!!! That works out at about £550 sterling surely its not that special!!!!!!!!!!!
Bearing has gone allowing end slap and now she is not charging so probably wrecked itself inside.
Help appreciated

Get in touch with your local reconditioner. It might be the armature but probably isn't. probably the bearing went allowing the armature to smash the brush carrier.
NEVER condemn an alternator without knowing exactly why. Reconditioners make a fortune out of reselling good parts. Honestly, they test them when they recieve them and will just check clean and resell any that come in working.

Just had a recon fitted to my ML, mine was a WATER COOLED 190amp model - list from Merc for a recon was circa £900.... + Vat, supply only... Got one for £400+vat full recon with a 2 year warranty, will try and get the supplier details for you..

Hi
Well took the alternator off and the end play is in the pulley and the pulley is free-wheeling kinda like your bicycle does although it does not engage properly sometimes so it is just a pulley i need, hopefully get one tomorrow.
Tried for a Bosch reconditioned alternator but they will not have any back in stock until September...... Heres hoping the puley cures it.

Bargsin - apparently the freewheeling pulley is to reduce load on the derpentine belt when stopping the engine, but I reckon it prob reduces the load on the alternator bearings too...
