Has this ever happened?

Hi,

I was driving along in my 6 year old SLK and all of a sudden the speedometer goes to zero and all the dashboard lights flash on. You then slow down and the car gets stuck in first gear.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Nope - can't say anything like that has happened to me. What's happened since? Have you continued to run it - is it running normally?

I'd want a diagnostic running on it tbh.

Probably an electrical failure, battery or alty, or for theat matter a relay stuck, we run a fleet of sprinters and when you jump start them the dash lights and speedo flicker like crazy. If you get it put on the star diagnosis it will have logged a fault code in the history.

Was there a strange craft hovering above you with flashing lights going around in a circle at the time perchance?:D

Once happened to me in a auto ford Granada. Was on the motorway and car would not shift from 3rd to 4th. Hit a bump and car shifted to 4th. Turned out to be a faulty speedo sensor.

Sounds like a battery fault to me too. Get the electrics checked out.
