Hi all, I was wondering if it is possible to install any amplifier to the comand as the volume seems to be too low!! wierd because the bass is v. good. sorry but you will have to assume you're talking to a complete novice as regards ice as it isn't one of my strong points. thanking you in anticipation. :o

Not really knowledgeable about command, but surely all you need to do is identify the leads running to the speakers, and route them via an amp. The only issue is whether command has the wire to turn the amp on/off.

Have to be careful not to blow the speakers though as presumably MB put in whatever speakers suit the amplification of the command system with little leeway on what they can handle.

It is possible to add a BOSE amp to COMAND. take a look at eBay. avmaster22 is selling a couple at the moment.
good luck hooking it all up!

When the command is active simply press the volume up button
This works on mine when I need to adjust the volujme

The amp chip is something like 40W per channel.

I have a Becker unit, and when the nav voice is directing I can change the volume of the voice using the volume knob indepently of the music volume. I think that Becker also make the Command, so it is worth trying.

The Becker only applies to Euro version 2005 and onwards. The USA 2005 model is Alpine. BOSCH makes the COMAND 2.0

Is it the CD/Radio which is not loud enough (which would be strange) or the spoken navigation commands - if it's the latter, their volume can be increased relative to the normal CD/Radio volume. I don't remember how, it's typically hidden but in there somewhere.

it is the radio-cd. not that i'm deaf but sometimes I get need for some serious head banging and its the first radio I have been able to turn to max without the speakers distorting badly!

I believe you are already experiencing hearing loss. Take my word for it the speakers make my ears ring when they are half way up.

This may be a stupid suggestion, which you have already tried, but I drove around complaining my Comand system volume was to low when I got my W211 E Class for about 3 months.
I then realised that if you press the "Ear Button" so it plays the comand and use the wheel volume control at the same time you can turn up the volume really high. So if the comand is making a command and you increase the volume it gets better. This seems to have no correlation to the volume set in the system preferences.
Now I have it so high now my wife gets annoyed! (Probably because the nice comand lady is competing with her:D )

the volume control knob - push it in and it repeats the next instruction... at that point - whilst the lady is talking turn the volume up.

thanks for all your help peeps, but you think I mean the (rather nice sounding) sat nav when I mean the music. The volume goes up but stops just when the speakers get going!! all the cars I've had melt the speakers before the volume goes to max. I would say it's my ancient ears but the missus says the same

Hi David, did you get the problem of low volume on your COMMAND audio sorted? I have just taken delivery of a SLK and think I have a similar problem?

I have the same problem with my command I find the radio sound is pretty loud but the cd volume is pretty low I have been told the only way to fix this is by taking it to merc to get the star system to adjust it problem is mine is a retro fit and no cable between the command and star port so I am stuffed!
