My own car doesn't blow any cold air anymore (to be repaired on Saturday - part has arrived now) but the 203 loaner I had a couple of weeks ago was blowing freezing cold air within a few seconds of firing it up.

Yes, within seconds really. People always comment on how quick my ac blows cold - the marque is good for something at least.

HMM  Will have to see how it goes on the drive home. The guy had it recharged and a new condensor or whatever it is. Something had a hole in it and was replaced and all seemed fine up to today.

Can you hear the compressor kick in when you start the engine?
You should hear the engine start, then seconds later a "thunk" (really!) - thats the compressor clutch engaging and spinning it up.
The compressor is on the RHS of the engine bay as you look in stood at the front of the car. Its usually mounted quite low down, mounted off the engine itself (well, it is on both my cars!)
When it kicks in, you should see it start spinning. Oh, and your additional fans should kick in too.

The bloke at the workshop who will be fixing mine on Saturday morning said that MB aircon is very good.
Looking forward to having it working. If I'd known it was a £30 pipe I'd have had it fixed ages ago!

Like the others, mine starts blowing cold in seconds. I re-gassed mine last year and put an extra 10% in, I was told this makes it more efficient, it certainly gets icy cold, if left blowing on the screen at night or early in the morning I get ice on the outside of the screen.

It has to be a bit moist outside, first condensation forms and then you see it turn frosty. Just two little patches above the demister vents.

I once switched the climate from max cold to max hot and steam came out of the vents for a couple of seconds :) .
The instructions state never to do it...

Very strange on the drive home from work teeth chattering and needed my thermals so all seems to be good.

Thmsshaun - Glad you're all solved. I had a problem with my air once, and the dealer said it was becuase the previous owner smoked in the car, which clogged the ac emitters... Believe it or not!

my car is old so its still running of the now obselete r12 gas. it takes a while to get cold but once the car gets going its ice cold. ive been told that the r12 gas is not cfc friendly but is a much more efficient in extremely hot weather such as middle east and asia where it still is being used. all you lucky r134 gas users you can top up the aircon whenever you like.
