Has anyone replaced the bulbs that illuminate the L & R temperature and air speed/direction controls on a (non-climate) W210? Which parts of the centre console do you have to remove to get at them? We're stumped ... :confused:

Not done it yet, but if it goes the same way as the E300d model which I used to own until I got the W210 E320 cdi, think you pull the knobs either side, ie fan speed and air direction knobs off, think they just pull off, use a pair of grips with a bit of rag in between the jaws so not to damage the plastic, when you get the knobs off there should be on either side a nut 17 or 18mm, undo and the surround should come off, then you will see the bulbs, fidley to do, use a bit of insulation tape on the the bulbs glass to remove.they pull out straight.

Has I have said I have not been required to do this as yet but I think in what I say is right.

knobs off
radio out
cage out
undo 2 screws L & R inside top of cage space
wood panel off
heater/blower control unit out
back of unit off
pcb inside unit has bulbs soldered into it
pcb can't be removed so: unsolder bulbs and remove
solder new bulbs into place
reverse procedure above

= about 2 hours fiddling around, M-B would probably just replace the unit!
