Does anyone know if this Audio 30 will fit in my 2001 CLK without modification? Will the steering wheel and instrument display work?

I fancy an upgrade from the Audio 10, and this could fit the bill.

Thanks in advance MB fans!

Should do, if the steering wheel controls work just now. However you may need to get your dealer to 'tell' the cluster that an Audi 30 is fitted.

When I fitted comand my Audio 30 is part no A 208 820 08 86 [06] (BE 3307). This has the phone and of course plays cassettes.

I asked the seller a question, and this is what I got...

********************************
You asked:
"Hi there, Can you tell me what year Mercedes this radio came out of, and what model? Also, I'm not sure if you know this, but do you know if this will fit into a 2001 CLK and whether you have the keys required to remove the stereo from the dash. Many thanks in advance for your response."

Hi, the unit has not been fitted, it was purchased for a 2004 ML but never fitted as the vehicle was sold. The unit will fit almost all Mercedes, if you quote the part number to your local dealer they can confirm compatability with the CLK. I don't have any removal keys but these are often available for sale on ebay. Regards

Seems promising. I'll call a friendly stealer tomorrow and see if they can tell me something useful. Fingers crossed and all that!

I looked at this also however, I realised that it doesnt play Cd's without an accompanying CD changer. Without a changer all you will get is Radio and phone.

I saw that too, a bit of creative writing from the seller in the description I feel...

Still, I've got the MB changer so am not overly concerned. What's the deal with the phone option? Does a SIM card fit into the radio or something? Does this mean the previous inoperative steering wheel buttons suddenly start doing something?

No idea, sorry. I'd get the full spec from a dealership myself.

I don't think the simcard goes into the head unit , its more like a remote control for your MB handsfree solution. I would imagine that you would have to get your local dealer to do some work with their star diagnosis machine for all the phone kit to work etc through the wheel.

Thanks for the responses so far guys.

Currently I'm waiting for Greenoaks to come back to me about compatability for my CLK. The fact the part number differs from Topdown's bothers me a little. I'll post when the engineers let me know.

If your existing Audio 10 works through the steering wheel (which it should do on a 2001 CLK), then other suitable 'can-equipped' radio units will as well, without any further coding.

Does the ML have steering wheel controls for the standard stereo? (is the unit that you propose to buy equipped with the necessary canbus connections for remote control?) I am not sure about this, but I suspect that it doesn't (AFAIK ML Comand units don't have canbus connections).

I would check very carefully before buying this unit. If it is truly ML spec, then I suspect that your steering whel controls won't work.

If you want the phone to work as per OEM with and audio 10, 30 or even comand you need to install as per threads - search Install Nokia or :-

Well, the helpful Stuart from Greenoaks got back to me.

He can see no reason why this unit would not work in my car, even though the ML it was bought for doesn't have steering wheel controls, that doesn't mean the unit doesn't support this function.

He did stress he'd not done this before, but hey, its worth a punt I reckon.

By the way, thanks for the phone link topdown. After reading all that I don't think I'll be attempting a phone install any time soon!
