Vanity Mirror lights

Hi Team,
I have just changed my 1995 C220D Elegance for a 1999 E220 cdi facelift.
It has courtesy lights in the head lining when you pull down the sun visors which I presume are for the vanity mirrors. Are these supposed to come on when you pull down the visors or lift the mirrors or is there a switch or something?

they should come on when the mirror is open and the visor is down (ie when you can see your face in the mirror then the light should be on).

make sure the visor is properly cliped into the roof as this is where the connection is
