Does anyone know how to remove the instrument cluster from a 1995 W124 Cab (belonging to Kikthekat) .
We (well me actually ;) ) are going to try & fit a BEcker traffic pro Sat Nav & Cd changer to Rays Cab on Saturday but from info received it looks like there wil be no speed pulse at the head unit and no cruise control so we have to go a searching behind the cluster - I'll also probably mount the GPS antenna behind it whilst the thing is out.
Does it just pull out or is there a "proper" procedure?
many thanks

Steve.
Mine just pulled out, using the proper MB tools of course ......
get them down the side of the instrument cluster and wiggle (the cluster, not yourself ;) ) and it should pop out quite easily.
Make a note of where all the wires etc go. the speedo cable can be a bit tight sometimes to get the binnacle out of the dash.....
Good luck
H
These pics any use to you I found them out on the net?

Did the car have a speed pulse signal present behind the dash?

green and yellow wire which feeds the speedo :)
it should also be present in the loom behind the centre conmsole althouh it may well be grey there just to add to the confusion.

Thanks Andy, wasnt really expecting a reply at this hour!
My car does not have cruise or asr, is it still likely to have a speed pulse?
Cheers

as long as you have an electronic speedo just hack into the speedo feed - I gave up searching in the hifi wiring loom as the car had a non standard pioneer system so I split mine with no ill effects to feed the sat nav.
The speedo still reads accurately and the sat nav works fine
it's a bit of a lottery on W124s as to what wiring you get so the quick way is to solder a new branch on to the loom - don't use a scotchlok that's just asking for trouble.
Yeah we are up late - we've just finished decorating one of the kid's bedrooms (painted, plastered and wallpapered all in three days) so we are having a drink before bed

Fitting satnav to a W124 is a helluva mod. Congratulations to all concerned!
